Looking Ahead - May 15

Looking Ahead puts the spotlight on runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are a particularly well-bred or high-priced runner having their first or second start, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse which has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.

On Wednesday, a beautifully-related juvenile at Warwick Farm has our attention and on the Ladbrokes Hillside course we like the pedigree of a debutante and a lightly-tried filly, who was impressive last time out.

Dorothy Of Oz (Redoute’s Choice) boasts a rich pedigree as a sister to the dual Group 3 winner Thewizardofoz and their dam is Princess Coup (Encosta de Lago), one of the finest mares of her time. She won 12 races, including four at Group 1 level and was placed multiple times in the best of company. She is a daughter of the three-time stakes winner Stoneyfell Road (Sovereign Red {NZ}) and a sister to the G2 Bill Stutt S. winner Sovereign Nation.

Trained by Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott, Dorothy Of Oz finished fourth on debut with a strong form line as the winner was the highly-regarded Libertini (I Am Invincible). She then followed up with another sound effort for fourth at Canterbury and she looks likely to appreciate the step up to 1400 metres.

Loco Mojo (Sebring) hails from a notable Australian family that has won feature races at home and away. She is out of Mambo Lady (Duke Of Marmalade {Ire}), a half-sister to the G3 Standish H. winner Decircles (Encosta de Lago), and their dam Lady Circles (Ascot Knight {Can}) is a half-sister to the domestic and international G1 winners Elvstroem (Danehill {USA}) and Haradasun (Fusaichi Pegasus {USA}) and to the dam of Highland Reel (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}).

Trainer Tony McEvoy has enjoyed a good season with the younger members of his stable and Loco Mojo finished runner-up in her only trial on a heavy track at Casterton. On pedigree, better ground will suit her and she’s drawn well enough to be in the frame.

Danny O’Brien’s Sovereign Award (Shamus Award) faces a rise in class here, but the filly won so well last time out that she looks more than capable of rising to the challenge. Off the back of a debut second, she was at short odds next time out at Geelong and left her rivals chasing a memory.

The 3-year-old is a daughter of Sovereign Charm (Show A Heart), who was successful on six occasions, and is out of a half-sister to the stakes winner Potential (Southern Appeal {USA}). Speed is evident in the pedigree with the presence of the G3 WATC Sires’ Produce S. winner Lordhelpmerun (Playing God) and the Listed Gimcrack S. winner Magic Heaven (Magic Ring {Ire}).
