Looking Ahead puts the spotlight on runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are a particularly well-bred or high-priced runner having their first or second start, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse which has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.
Today, we have sorted out three well-related gallopers to follow on the synthetic track at Pakenham where we like the chances of a colt from Redoute’s Choice’s family, a filly from a well-performed black type family and a 2-year-old with a strong Group 1 background.
Pakenham Synthetic Race 1, 12.30pm, Racing.com Plate, $23,000, 1000m
Asateer (I Am Invincible) is the first foal of the unraced Isstoora (High Chaparral {Ire}), a daughter of the G3 Breeders’ Plate winner Murjana (Giant’s Causeway {Ire}). This is a rich and deep pedigree and the family of the late, great stallion Redoute’s Choice and his Group 1 winning siblings Platinum Scissors and Manhattan Rain. Also featuring is the multiple top flight winners Shoals (Redoute’s Choice) and the Group 1 winners and stallions Al Maher and Hurricane Sky.
Trained by Lloyd Kennewell, Asateer was a trial winner before he went to Bendigo in February and finished runner-up on debut. After a break, the colt was given a quiet trial for fourth at Werribee last month. He has drawn a poor gate, but with his fair share of luck in the running can post the first winning strike of his career.

Pakenham Synthetic Race 3, 1.30pm, Kennards Hire Maiden, $23,000, 1400m
Miss Mawingo (Mawingo {Ger}) has trialled well before giving a decent account of herself at the first time of asking at Sale where she finished fourth on a testing track. She has been given time to get over her exertions and from an inside gate she looks a strong each way player in the hands of Ben Allen.
Trained by Greg Eurell, Miss Mawingo is a daughter of Go Missy (Danetrice), who was successful five times up to 1700 metres, and she is a half-sister to the G1 Australasian Oaks and G1 Rawson S. winner Sound Action (Vettori {Ire}). Top-flight winners Turf Ruler (NZ) (Ruling {USA}) and Loughanure (NZ) (Ring Around The Moon {USA}) also feature in this pedigree.
Pakenham Synthetic Race 4, 2.00pm, Lifestyle Kaduna Park Maiden, $23,000, 1400m
Satin Sashes (More Than Ready {USA}) has made an encouraging start to her career with the filly finishing fourth at Sale at her first attempt and then running third on this track at her only other appearance. The step up in trip should suit the youngster and she looks more than capable of opening her winning account.
The 2-year-old is prepared by Cindy Alderson and is a half-sister to the Listed Wyong Magic Millions S. winner Assail (Charge Forward) with their dam the unraced Redoute’s Choice mare Emanday. She is a sister to the G1 TJ Smith S. winner Master Of Design and a half-sister to the G1 Greyville Premier’s Champion S. winner Suntagonal (Octagonal {NZ}). Former Australian Horse of the Year Typhoon Tracy (Red Ransom {USA}) is another headline act on the page.
