Looking Ahead - July 11

Looking Ahead puts the spotlight on runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are a particularly well-bred or high-priced runner having their first or second start, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse which has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.

On Thursday, Lindsay Park steps out a well-related 2-year-old at Sale, while at Kembla Grange a promising filly looks to break her maiden, while Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott debut a filly from a Group 1 winning Emirates Park family.

Peidra (Pierro) makes his debut for Lindsay Park and looks to have a degree of talent. He was a good trial winner at Wodonga back in February where he closed nicely from off the pace to score and at a recent Flemington jumpout, he was close-up after tracking wide throughout.

He was a $250,000 buy for his trainers at last year's Sydney Easter Sale and is a half-brother to two winners, out of the stakes-placed mare Valoura (Exceed And Excel). She is a half-sister to the Group 2 winner Noire (Foxwedge) as well as a couple of other stakes-placegetters, while other stakes horses to feature on the page include Timbourina (Timber Country {USA}), Media (Gilded Time {USA}) and Cardinal Virtue (Elusive Quality {USA}).

Dunbrody Power (All Too Hard) has been unlucky not to break her maiden in her five starts to date. She has been placed in four of those runs, while the other one, she finished fourth in the Magic Millions Maiden on the Gold Coast.

She holds the record as being the equal most expensive yearling by her sire, having cost $600,000 at the 2017 Gold Coast Magic Millions. She is the first foal of Listed winner She's a Fox (Fastnet Rock), the full sister to Group 1 winner and stallion Foxwedge. Coincidentally, Dunbrody Power's half-brother Niewand (Shooting To Win) is down to debut in the first race at Sale.

Emirates Park owned Shuhood (I Am Invincible) has her first start in the famous green and white colours having had no fewer than six trials on her way to the racetrack. She showed a fair bit of speed in her most recent trial win at Warwick Farm and gets the luxury of the inside barrier on debut.

She is out of Shahad, who was stakes placed as a 2-year-old and is the half-sister to the Group 2 winner Shumookh (Dream Ahead {USA}). The second dam is Emirates Park's triple Group 1 winning mare Shamekha (Secret Savings {USA}), a mare very close to Nasser Lootah's heart.
