Looking Ahead puts the spotlight on runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are a particularly well-bred or high-priced runner having their first or second start, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse which has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.
On Tuesday, we have a pair of expensive 2-year-olds in our sights at the Wyong meeting and look at a Lindsay Park youngster from a strong Group 1 family and a leading chance to post her breakthrough victory.
Wyong Race 3, 1.35pm, Join Wyong Race Club Now H., $35,000, 1000m
A $650,000 buy at the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale, Sangria (I Am Invincible) is out of the stakes performer Quench The Thirst (Encosta de Lago) and is a sister to the G3 South Australia Fillies’ Classic winner Precious Lorraine and the Listed Black Opal S. winner Lucky Raquie. Quench The Thirst is also a sister to champion stallion Redoute’s Choice, the Group 1 producer Manhattan Rain and a three-quarter sister to the dam of promising young sire Rubick.
Sangria as a yearling
Also from the family of the multiple Group 1 winner Shoals (Fastnet Rock), Sangria has turned in a couple of encouraging trials for Peter and Paul Snowden. In the hands of Tim Clark, the filly has a pedigree to instil confidence that she can be prominent first time out.
Wyong Race 4, 2.10pm, tab.com.au H., $35,000, 1200m
Street Scream (Street Boss {USA}) has looked smart at the trials, winning both outings before a break and he has come back to win again at Newcastle and was third at Gosford at his latest appearance. The in-form Brenton Avdulla will ride the gelding and from the inside alley will get every opportunity to shine on debut.
Street Boss (USA), sire of Street Scream | Standing at Darley
Trained by Kim Waugh, he was purchased for $230,000 at the Inglis Ready to Run Sale and is a half-brother to multiple winner May Be Fate (Reward For Effort). Their dam La Kalima (Tuscany Flyer) is out of La Zip (Zephyr Zip {NZ}), who was placed in the G1 Blue Diamond S. and from the family of stakes winner and Group 1 performer Huka Eagle (NZ) (Swiss Ace).
Pakenham Race 2, 1.00pm, XXXX Gold 2YO Maiden, $23,000, 1200m
Minicoop (Sebring) is a brother to the winner and G2 VRC Sires’ Produce S. runner-up Seberate and their dam Recooperate (General Nediym) was also stakes placed as a 2-year-old. She is a half-sister to the multiple Group 1 winning sprinter Niconero (Danzero) and to the two-time Group 1 winner and successful sire Nicconi. The G1 Goodwood H. winner Zip Zip Aray (Bellotto {USA}) is also in the pedigree.
The late Sebring, sire of Minicoop
The filly will be ridden by apprentice Lachlan King, who was aboard her at Tatura where they finished runners-up. That was Minicoop’s first appearance since January so it’s reasonable to assume that she will strip sharper for the outing and experience.
