Rangeview Stud has confirmed that its resident stallion Demerit was euthanised after suffering an injury in a paddock accident.

The Group 3 winning son of Lonhro had served seven seasons at Kent and Nina Johnston's Taunton Vale Stud and was recently transferred to Rangeview Stud after Kent Johnston's passing.

He has produced 70 winners from 110 runners, including two stakes winners, Kiss Bang Love and Agent Pippa, who both won the G3 Perth Racing Gimcrack S.

Agent Pippa recently won her first start for Kris Lees at Rosehill in impressive fashion.

Mystic may miss Memsie

Adam Trinder has indicated his star Mystic Journey (Needs Further) may bypass the G1 Memsie S. after her next run in the G2 PB Lawrence S. at Caulfield.

Trinder opted to not send the Group 1 winning filly to Melbourne for last Saturday's G3 Bletchingly S. and is happy with his decision.

"I am really comfortable that she did bypass the Bletchingly," Trinder told Racing.com. "I thought the ground was quite testing and it wouldn’t have been a suitable start point for her."

"She’ll head to the Lawrence. That will give us more clarity as to what our next steps are."

Mystic Journey will head to the G2 PB Lawrence S.

Trinder said a run in the Memsie was not a guarantee for Mystic Journey and he wanted to keep his options open.

"We’ll know off the back of the Lawrence as to whether she needs to run in the Memsie. It’s a race that we may bypass, or we may diversify in travel plans with her," he said.

He also confirmed the filly's stakes-winning three-quarter sister Mystical Pursuit would contest a race at Moonee Valley this Saturday.

Chenier out

Injury has ruled Chenier (Medaglia d’Oro {USA}) out for the spring.

The Godolphin-owned colt won at Sandown on debut in the autumn and was subsequently high in markets for the Group 1 Champagne S. before connections opted to spell the colt after his second run.

"Unfortunately, Chenier has suffered an injury behind and will miss the spring, " Freedman Racing said. "He's still got a lot of growing and maturing to do, but he's a very promising colt who we have high hopes for next preparation."

Scott’s win helps savings

Rebecca Scott’s husband may not be a keen racing follower, but he knows what his wife’s win on Verry Flash (NZ) (Zed {NZ}) in Saturday’s Taumarunui Gold Cup (2200m) at Rotorua means to them both.

Scott, an Auckland apprentice jockey, registered the biggest win of her riding career aboard the Nick Bishara-trained Verry Flash (a brother to dual Group One winner Verry Elleegant) and for the 25-year-old and husband, Jason Barry, her winning share of the stakemoney will be well spent.

“We got married on March 21 this year and we’re saving to buy our first home,” Scott said. “The win has come at a good time for us and hopefully I can roll on a bit from it.”’

He’s a star

Star Emperor (NZ) (Red Giant {USA}), who could have been bought for NZ$10,000 at the 2015 Select Sale at Karaka, has won the Jumbo Jet Trophy at Kranji.

It was a fourth win from 13 starts for the chestnut gelding, who was successful for trainer Wayne Marshment as Stealth Giant (NZ) before his transfer to Singapore.

He has now earned more than NZ$210,000 in prizemoney, 21 times his reserve at Karaka.

Laurens On Top Again

She may not have the level of adoration or the nine Group 1s of Enable (GB) (Nathaniel {Ire}), but Laurens (Fr) (Siyouni {Fr}) was advertising her own prowess at that level when making it an incredible six on Sunday in Deauville’s G1 Prix Rothschild.

Successful in last year’s G1 Prix Saint-Alary and G1 Prix de Diane, the favourite was sent on to make it a test and use her stride by PJ McDonald and led the main group racing up the centre.

In front overall approaching the final three furlongs as Beshaayir (GB) faded out of contention towards the stand’s side, she was clear as last year’s winner With You (GB) and Obligate (GB) found their stride late and hit the line with a half length to spare over the former, with Obligate 1 1/2 lengths away in third.

Ollie’s Candy Takes Grade 1

Ollie’s Candy (USA) (Candy Ride {Arg}) grittily repelled favored Secret Spice (USA) (Discreet Cat {USA}) in the dying strides to win the G1 Clement L. Hirsch S. at Del Mar by a hard-fought head and earn an automatic berth in the GI Breeders’ Cup Distaff.

The John Sadler-trained filly looked set to wilt under the pressure of the heavy favorite and Secret Spice got a nose in front at midstretch, but Ollie’s Candy refused to lose and battled back resolutely to earn her first Grade 1 victory.
