TDNAusNZ: Firstly, you've collected another QLD trainer premiership this season, congratulations! Is there a trainer you most admire and why?

TG: Peter Snowden, I believe his ability to get horses to peak at just the right time for their grand final race is phenomenal.

TDNAusNZ: Where are you from and what is your earliest racing memory?

TG: I'm from Toowoomba in Queensland, my earliest racing memory was a day at the races at Clifford Park in Toowoomba with my father, Darryl.

Tony's father, Darryl Gollan

TDNAusNZ: Which is your favourite racehorse of all time?

TG: My personal perspective is Temple Spirit (Special Dane), she is the dam of Spirit of Boom (Sequalo) and Temple of Boom (Piccolo {GB}). Without her, it is very unlikely that I would have had the success I have had today.

We cannot forget Tulloch (NZ) (Khorassan {GB}), and then it is also impossible to split, Winx (Street Cry {Ire}) and Black Caviar (Bel Esprit).

TDNAusNZ: Who is your favourite horse in work right now? Why?

TG: Zoustyle (Zoustar), I don’t think we have seen the best of him yet, which I feel is an exciting prospect.

Zoustyle is Tony's favourite horse currently in work

TDNAusNZ: What do you love most about your job?

TG: The challenge of getting the best out of our horses, I love the feeling of working in a team environment and also watching what the horses mean to their respective owners.

TDNAusNZ: What is your favourite day on a racecourse?

TG: My favourite day on a racecourse was Doomben 10,000 day in 2014. My two best horses quinella’ed the Doomben 10,000.

Tony experienced great success in 2014 when the Boom brothers finished one and two in the Doomben 10,000

TDNAusNZ: Do you have any superstitions or race day rituals?

TG: Not really... but I do have spots at each race track that I like to watch my horses race. I very rarely deviate from those spots!

TDNAusNZ: If you were an Everest slotholder, who would you pick?

TG: Zoustyle!

TDNAusNZ: What positive change would you like to see in the industry?

TG: It is already making headway, but I am enjoying seeing the current development and positive change that is happening with our retired racehorses.

It is important that they have a career after racing and the industry has started to take this upon itself to help our horses transition from racehorse into another discipline, which is fantastic to watch.

TDNAusNZ: If you weren’t a racehorse trainer what do you see yourself doing?

TG: I would be involved in something to do with either sport or finance, it's quite a contrast but something where I have to reach KPIs and hit targets.
