Looking Ahead - August 22

3 min read

Looking Ahead puts the spotlight on runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are a particularly well-bred or high-priced runner having their first or second start, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse which has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.

On Thursday, we go to Hawkesbury, where Chautauqua's half-brother is on debut and a Kris Lees colt also creates interest art his first start, while Lindsay Park send out a well-related Redoute's Choice filly at Moe.

Hawkesbury Race 2, 1:25pm AEST, Hawkesbury Liquor Accord 3YO Mdn, $35,000, 1000m

Rouchel (More Than Ready {USA}) creates plenty of interest on his debut here having performed very well at a couple of recent trials for trainers Peter and Paul Snowden. He is a half-brother to five-time Group 1 winning sprinter Chautauqua (Encosta de Lago) and was retained by the Throsby family to race.

Chautauqua is not the only top-quality galloper in the family with another half-sibling London Lolly (Charge Forward), a Group 3 winner, while the dam Lovely Jubly (Lion Hunter) was a dual Group 1 winning filly.

Moe Race 1, 1:30pm AEST, Able on Site Services 3YO Fillies Mdn, $35,000, 1100m

Brad Spicer thought enough of Sacred Goddess (Redoute's Choice) to pay $300,000 for her at last year's Easter Yearling Sale, and she makes her debut here for the team of David and Ben Hayes and Tom Dabernig. She is out of Listed winner Songs Of Vienna (Umatilla {NZ}), who has already produced a stakes-winner in City Of Song (Bel Esprit), and is a half-sister to G2 winner Hadabeclorka (Hurricane Sky).

Sacred Goddess as a yearling

Sacred Goddess showed plenty of speed at a recent Flemington jumpout, leading all the way before winning under a hold, a performance which would appear to put her in good stead to break her maiden at her first start here.

Hawkesbury Race 3, 2:05pm AEST, Robert Oatley Mdn, $35,000, 1100m

Spiritual Power (Invincible Spirit {Ire}) brings an intriguing pedigree to his debut at Hawkesbury for Kris Lees and jockey Hugh Bowman. His dam Majestic Power (Ire) (Dalakhani {Ire}) was sent to Invincible Spirit on southern hemisphere time before she arrived in Australia to foal down this colt.

Majestic Power is a half-sister to Irish Group 3 winner Venus De Milo (Ire) (Duke of Marmalade {Ire}) and stakes-placed What A Home (Ire) (Lope de Vega {Ire}), a coupe of the many northern hemisphere stakes-winners on the pedigree page.

This colt looked fairly sharp in a recent Gosford barrier trial, jumping well before taking a sit and then powering over the top of rivals. A similar run here could see him figure in the finish at his first start.
