Looking Ahead - August 25

3 min read

Looking Ahead puts the spotlight on runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are a particularly well-bred or high-priced runner having their first or second start, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse which has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.

On Sunday, Bjorn Baker has an Akeed Mofeed gelding on debut at Nowra, while at Pakenham a full-sister to a recent US stakes-winner looks to break her maiden for Lindsay Park, while Robbie Griffiths looks to do something similar with the first foal of a Group 1 winner.

Nowra Race 1, 12:40pm AEST, Kathy O'Hara - Winning Jockey Mdn , $22,000, 1100m

Twilight Sun (Akeed Mofeed {GB}) makes his debut for Bjorn Baker here off an impressive trial win at Rosehill earlier this month, finishing off his work stylishly enough to suggest this is a winnable task first up.

Akeed Mofeed sire of Twilight Sun

He is a full brother to recent Flemington winner Twilight Run and was a $13,000 online purchase for his owners. His dam, Twilighting (Desert Sun {GB}) was stakes-placed and is from the family of Group 1 winner Acushla Marie (Lord Ballina) as well as stakes-winners Kalamata (Desert Prince {Ire}), Stirling Grove (Mossman), Kirvinsky {Stravinksy {USA}) and Hucklebuck (Elvstroem).

Pakenham Race 3, 1:50pm AEST, Memberships on Sale Mdn, $23,000, 1600m

Lindsay Park debuted Macedonian Ruler (Animal Kingdom {USA}) a couple of weeks ago at this venue and did not get a lot of room in the straight when finishing a close-up third. The step to 1600m looks entirely suitable for him to break his maiden.

Retained to race by his breeders, he is out of South African Group 2 winner Alexandra Rose (SAF) (Caesour {USA}). His full sister Olexsandra, won a Listed race at Saratoga last week, while another half-sibling, Hostwin Galaxy (Redoute's Choice) was unbeaten in two starts in Australia and was stakes-placed in Macau.

Pakenham Race 4, 2:30pm AEST, Cardinia Beaconhills Club Mdn, $23,000, 1000m

Noteably (All Too Hard) resumes here for Robbie Griffiths having shown a bit at her first start back in October last year when third behind subsequent metropolitan winner Jentico (Written Tycoon). She has not been too far away at a couple of recent jumpouts, which suggests she is pretty forward for this.

Noteably as a yearling

Retained to race by breeder Rick Jamieson of Gilgai Farm, she is out of Mirjulisa Lass (Danasinga), who won the Group 1 Vinery Stud S. and fetched $330,000 as a broodmare back in 2013.

Her second foal, a full brother, fetched $170,000 at this year's Gold Coast Magic Millions Sale. Mirjulisa Lass's dam is a half-sister to Group 2 winner Pembleton (Marauding) while Hong Kong G1 winner Seasons Bloom (Captain Sonador) is also on the pedigree page.
