Rosehill, G2 Sydney Markets Run To The Rose, $200,000, 1200m

Race summary:

Bivouac (Exceed And Excel) was given a gun run behind the pace by Josh Parr and he lengthened stride impressively in the straight.

He dashed clear 200 metres from home to put the issue beyond doubt and boost his G1 Golden Rose S. prospects.

Yes Yes Yes (Rubick) made a solid return to racing to claim 2nd ahead of the favourite Exceedance (Exceed And Excel), whose turn of foot was lacklustre after having every opportunity.

Pedigree notes:

A Godolphin homebred, Bivouac boasts a rich and deep pedigree and is out of a half-sister to the multiple Group 1 winner Guelph, who produced the G2 Danehill S. winner Encryption (Lonhro).

Their mother is Dazzler (More Than Ready {USA}), who is out of the G1 AJC Sires’ Produce S. winner Camarilla (Elusive Quality {USA}) and the family of the four-time Group 1 winner and successful sire Sepoy (Elusive Quality {USA}).

Rosehill, G2 Toohey’s 150th Birthday Theo Marks Quality, $200,000, 1300m

Race summary:

Arcadia Queen (Pierro) had no concerns in her opening run of the season and travelled comfortably behind the leaders to the turn.

Rider James McDonald presented her at the right time and she drew clear with a minimum of fuss to set her up for a crack at the $14 million TAB Everest.

Trode (More Than Ready {USA}) came on well from the rear for a 2nd, but without threatening the winner, and a fresh Gem Song (Your Song) earned 3rd money with a sound effort.

Pedigree notes:

Bred and raced by Bob Peters, Arcadia Queen is out of Arcadia (Redoute’s Choice), who has done an outstanding job at stud.

She is also the dam of the mare’s Group 3 winning brother Arcadia Prince as well as G2 Western Australian Derby winner Arcadia Dream (Domesday) and the Listed winner Arcadia Rose (Kheleyf {USA}).

Arcadia is a sister to the Listed Jungle Dawn Classic winner Broadway Belle, who has produced the G2 Western Australian Derby winning brothers Regal Power (Pierro) and Action.

Rosehill, G2 Schweppes Sheraco S., $200,000, 1200m

Race summary:

The Anthony Cummings trained Mizzy (Zoustar) has come back from a spell in outstanding fashion with wins in the G3 Toy Show Quality and the G2 Sheraco S. today. Having won only one race, a Canterbury Maiden prior to this preparation, the sky is the limit for this lightly raced mare.

With previously unbeaten Fasika (So You Think {NZ}) slow to begin, Tommy Berry took advantage, sending Mizzy straight to the front and despite the many challengers, she fought off Fasika and the Group 1 placed Champagne Cuddles (Not A Single Doubt) in the run to the post. The Team Hawkes trained Dyslexic (Foxwedge) was the unlucky runner, not finding any clear galloping room and finishing on the place-getters heels in 4th.

Anthony Cummings said he was "really pleased to see her win" and that he will be on the lookout for a suitable Group 1 for her in the Spring.

Pedigree notes:

Mizzy is out of Missy Cummings (Magnus) and her sire, Zoustar had a Group 2 interstate double within 15 minutes, with Mizzy winning the Sheraco S. at Rosehill and Zoutori (Zoustar) winning the Bobbie Lewis at Flemington.

Rosehill, Listed Dulcify S., $150,000, 1500m

Race summary:

Just Thinkin' (So You Think) was sent straight to the front by Tim Clark and the big strong gelding from the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott stable proved too strong in the run home for Subedar (Sepoy) and Shadow Hero (Pierro). Race favourite and G1 Champagne Stakes winner, Castelvecchio (Dundeel {NZ}) ran on into 3rd.

Just Thinkin' has now won two in a row since being gelded. He handled the jump from a mid-week Maiden to Listed company with relative style and is now the second-favourite behind Castelvecchio in the Victoria Derby.

Pedigree notes:

Just Thinkin' is by So You Think and his dam, Nothin' Leica Cat (NZ) (Tale Of The Cat {USA}) has produced both Stampede and G3 winner Thinkin' Big who are both by High Chaparral (Ire), making them three-quarter brothers.

Morphettville, Listed Morphettville Guineas, $100,000, 1600m

Race summary:

Lightly raced filly Bonvicini (Myboycharlie {Ire}) claimed her first stakes win in the Listed Morphettville Guineas today for David Eustace and Ciaron Maher.

She relished the extra distance at her 3rd race start and was given a beautiful ride by her jockey Jake Toeroek. After drawing perfectly she was presented at the top of the straight and sprinted too quickly in the run home for Silent Sovereign (Dalakhani {Ire}) and Lady Loire (Not A Single Doubt).

Raced by Greenwich Stud, the daughter of Myboycharlie (Ire) looks a good staying prospect and could be aimed at the VRC Oaks.

Pedigree notes:

Myboycharlie claimed his 20th stakes winner with the win of Bonvicini in the Listed Morphettville Guineas. Bonvicini is out of the Testa Rossa mare Orvieto.

Ruakaka, G3 Cambridge Stud Northland Breeders’ S., NZ$70,000, 1200m

Race summary:

Lightly raced 3-year-old gelding Catalyst (Darci Brahma) made it 3 wins from just 4 starts in the G3 Breeders Stakes at Ruakaka over 1200 metres.

The short-priced favourite, Catalyst enjoyed the prefect run in transit but was held up until 250 metres from home, before easing off heels and sprinting too quickly for his rivals.

He won with relative ease on the line with 3.25l to Exuberant (NZ) (Savabeel) who finished in 2nd, and another 0.75l to Zelenski (NZ) (Shocking) in 3rd.

He's an exciting gelding that is destined to win better races.

Pedigree notes:

Catalyst is by multiple Group 1 winning sire Darci Brahma and is out of unraced mare Evana.

Awapuni, G3 Boehringer Ingelheim Metric Mile, NZ$75,000, 1600m

Race summary:

It took Herengawe (Zed {NZ}) the entire straight to find a margin in the G3 Metric Mile today over 1600 metres at Awapuni, but he got there right on the line.

From the Joanne Moss stable, Darryl Bradley was able to get the most out of the 5-year-old gelding winning by a nose, the narrowest of margins over Mauna Kea (NZ) (Per Incanto {USA}), and a long neck to Dez (NZ) (Zed {NZ}) in 3rd.

He was presented at the top of the straight and always seemed to be travelling in the run. This was the geldings first stakes victory and his 6th win from just 17 starts.

Pedigree notes:

Herengawe is by Zed who is sired by Zabeel (NZ), and his dam Vim (NZ) (Germano {GB}) was black-type placed.
