Looking Ahead - October 8

Looking Ahead puts the spotlight on runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are a particularly well-bred or high-priced runner having their first or second start, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse which has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.

On Tuesday, a pair of richly-bred 3-year-olds look leading chances at Goulburn while at Donald we have settled on a Matt Cumani-prepared colt to post the first winning strike of his career.

Goulburn, Race 3, 2.20pm, Divalls Earthmoving H., $22,000, 1000m

Aeecee Vinco (Charge Forward) is the first winner for the unraced Snitzel mare Masked Romance, who is a half-sister to the two-time Group 3 winner and G1 New Zealand 1000 Guineas runner-up Blackrock College (NZ) (Volksraad {GB}). The dam is also a half-sister to Cashcade (NZ) (Anziyan {USA}), who produced the G1 Captain Cook S. winner Ekstreme (NZ) (Ekraar {USA}).

A $100,000 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale graduate, Aeecee Vinco is trained by Mark Newnham who gave the colt a light, but successful, campaign last season. The colt was a debut winner and placed at Warwick Farm and in between times finished a sound sixth in the Inglis Nursery. He ran third in his latest trial and with a 4kg claim looks well-placed to resume on the right note.

Goulburn, Race 5, 3.35pm, Semco Equipment Maiden, $22,000, 1400m

The well-related Zebrowski (NZ) (Savabeel) boasts a strong pedigree and is a half-brother to the Group 2 winners Polish Knight (NZ) (Encosta de Lago) and Leebaz (NZ) (Zabeel {NZ}) and to Euro Angel (NZ) (Rip Van Winkle {Ire}), who won at Group 3 level. Their dam Polish Princess (GB) (Polish Precedent {USA}) was a stakes winner and Group 1 placed and is a half-sister to the black type winner Suez (GB) (Green Desert {USA}), who produced the G1 Newmarket Fillies’ Mile winner Lyric Of Light (GB) (Street Cry {Ire}).

The pedigree also includes other European Group 1 winners in Cezanne (GB) (Adjal {USA}), Zee Zee Top (GB) (Zafonic {USA}), Izzi Top (GB) (Pivotal {GB}) and the brothers Opera House (GB) (Sadler’s Wells {USA}) and Kayf Tara (GB). Prepared by Team Hawkes, Zebrowski has trialled well ahead of his first appearance and also has the benefit of the inside gate.

Donald, Race 2, 2.00pm, Gilchrist & Co Maiden, $23,000, 1620m

Sign Seal Deliver (Dundeel {NZ}) had a quiet trial before he made his first appearance and he produced a bold performance at Ballarat. He finished second after making all the running over 1400 metres and should be all the better for the run and a step up in distance gives him the opportunity to go one better.

A $200,000 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale purchase, the Matt Cumani-trained colt is a son of the Listed Centaurea S. winner Vivid Vixen (NZ) (Ekraar {USA}) and she is out of a sister to Super Kid (NZ) (Gaius {USA}). He won the G3 Waikato Guineas and was subsequently a multiple stakes winner in Hong Kong and also placed at Group 1 level both there and in Australia. It’s also the family of the G3 Carlyon Cup winner Live In Vain (Kenvain).
