Looking Ahead - October 10

3 min read

Looking Ahead puts the spotlight on runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are a particularly well-bred or high-priced runner having their first or second start, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse which has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.

On Thursday, we take a global tour with stops at Mornington, where we have a Dissident filly from a well-performed American family on debut, and Wyong where a 5-year-old bred in Japan steps out for the first time while a half-sister to a Japanese Group 1 winner looks to break her maiden.

Mornington Race 2, 2pm AEDT, Ladbrokes Cash In Plate, $35,000, 1000m

Dissident filly Missallure makes her debut here for Phillip Stokes and is ever there is a man who would know a good one from the sire it is Peter Moody, who helped pick her out for $110,000 for Wylie Dalziel at the Inglis Melbourne Premier Sale last year.

Dissident, sire of Missallure

She is from the first foal from the stakes-placed mare Street Allure (Street Boss {USA}). That family goes right back to the USA and includes the Listed winner Wedding Picture (USA) (Blushing Groom {USA}), the grand dam of champion American mare Forever Together (USA) (Belong To Me {USA}). Missallure stepped out at a Pakenham jumpout last month and looked pretty comfortable in running third and she seems capable of making an impression at her first start here.

Wyong Race 4, 3:20pm AEDT, Clipsal By Schneider Mdn, $35,000, 1350m

Developed (Jpn) (Orfevre {Jpn}) is a rare Australian runner for his sire, having been purchased out of 2016 JRHA Select Sale for 40 million yen (AU$550,000) and arriving in Australia around 18 months ago to race for Orbis Bloodstock and Kim Waugh.

Orfevre (Jpn), sire of Developed

His dam, Miss Emma (Ire) (Key Of Luck {USA}) was a Group 3 winner in Ireland and has already produced a stakes-winner in Kagura (USA) (Vindication {USA}).

Developed has had four trials since joining the Waugh stable, winning three of them, including his most recent at Cessnock where he finished off under riding to win by 0.5l. He looks ready for his debut.

Wyong Race 5, 3:55pm AEDT, Aussie Duct - IPD - SAL - PSA Mdn, $35,000, 1200m

Speaking of international pedigrees, Akari (Snitzel) is a filly from a very well-performed Japanese family, being a half-sister to Japanese Group 1 winner Aerolithe (Jpn) (Kurofune {USA}), out of Asterix (Jpn) (Neo Universe {Jpn}), who is a half-sister to the Champion Sprinter and Miler Mikki Isle (Jpn) (Deep Impact {Jpn}), who currently stands at Arrowfield.

Akari as a yearling

This filly, who cost $1.05 million as a yearling, has been placed in her three starts to date, including a third behind Libertini (I Am Invincible) in a Listed race as a 2-year-old. She resumed with a second at this track last month and looks ready to break her maiden here.
