Te Rapa, G2 James & Annie Sarten Memorial S., $100,000, 1400m

Race Summary:

Harlech (NZ) (Darci Brahma {NZ}) had been beaten on a heavy track at his lead-up appearance and he showed his appreciation of a better surface.

He raced in the leading division and when rider Michael McNab slipped him more rein half-way down the straight the colt cut loose.

The 3-year-old surged clear for a dominant win at the expense of Run To Perfection (Sepoy), who came on well from the back and Bella Mente (El Roca) was third.

Pedigree Notes:

Harlech was a NZ$100,000 New Zealand Bloodstock Yearling Sale purchase and is a son of Obsession (NZ) (Bachelor Duke {USA}).

She was a quality mare who won the G2 Auckland Thoroughbred Breeders’ S. and twice placed at Group 1 level.

Obsession, who has left four winners and all by Darci Brahma, is from an international family that includes the G1 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe winner Golden Horn (GB) (Cape Cross {Ire}) and the G1 Royal Ascot Coronation S. winner Rebecca Sharp (GB) (Machiavellian {USA}).

The G1 Caulfield Cup runner Vow And Declare (Declaration Of War {USA}) also appears on the pedigree page.
