Flemington, G1 Kennedy Oaks, $1,000,000, 2500m

Race Summary:

Miami Bound (NZ) (Reliable Man {GB}) has emulated her dam Arapaho Miss (Danehill Dancer {Ire}) and claimed the G1 Kennedy Oaks in emphatic fashion at Flemington.

Continuing a magical week for her trainer Danny O'Brien, Miami Bound overcame a pre-race scare, where she refused to canter to the barriers, and given a sweet ride by Damien Oliver proved the superior stayer, charging away to a 3.25l win.

Never Listen (Trusting) defied her long odds to run on into second, with Moonlight Maid (Puissance De Lune {Ire}) another 2l back in third.

It is Oliver's fifth victory in the race and his 119th Group 1 win overall but just his second when riding for O'Brien.

Miami Bound has now won four of her seven starts and takes her total prizemoney to $882,000.

Pedigree Notes:

As mentioned, Miami Bound is out of G1 VRC Oaks winner Arapaho Miss (Danehill Dancer {Ire}), who along with this filly, has produced the Listed winner De Little Engine (Encosta De Lago).

Arapaho Miss, who has had five winners from her six foals to the track, is out of the Listed-placed imported mare Happy Heart (Fr) (Exit To Nowhere {USA}), who also produced the Group 1-placed Heartsareforlove (Hussonet {USA}), who contested this race back in 2010.

Arapaho Miss has an unnamed 2-year-old filly by Swiss Ace and is due to foal a full sibling to Miami Bound this spring.

This filly becomes the first Australian Group 1 winner for her sire, the Westbury Stud-based Reliable Man (GB).

Miami Bound was a NZ$120,000 purchase for O'Brien at the 2018 New Zealand Bloodstock Yearling Sale at Karaka.

Flemington, Darley Maribyrnong Plate, $200,000, 1000m

Race Summary:

Hard Landing (All Too Hard) made a dream start to his career when he came from off the pace with a resolute finishing run to score on debut.

The Lindsay Park representatives proved a touch too good for his stablemate Baaqyah (NZ) (I Am Invincible) and both youngsters will now be sent for spells.

Third home was Tagaloa (Lord Kanaloa {Jpn}) and the Godolphin runner Jerle (Exceed And Excel) was next to cross the line.

Pedigree Notes:

The winner was purchased at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale for $280,000 with David Hayes and bloodstock agent Andy Williams signing for the colt.

He is a son of the G1 Lightning S. winner Snitzerland (Snitzel), who also won a pair of Group 2 sprints.

She is a sister to the G3 Aurie’s Star winner and sire Sooboog and their dam is a sister to the G3 Adelaide Guineas winner and Group 1 placegetter Nina Haraka (Fraar {USA}).

Flemington, Network 10 Red Roses S., $300,000, 1100m

Race Summary:

Sisstar (Zoustar) has lived up to her substantial pedigree, notching a valuable first stakes-win in the G3 Red Roses S. at Flemington.

The full sister to triple Group 1 winner Sunlight (Zoustar), Sisstar shone in her own right, showing plenty of speed to dominate from the front and hold off Niccovi (Nicconi) by 0.2l down the Flemington straight with the well-backed favourite California Zimbol (I Am Invincible) another 0.75l back in third.

Having just her seventh start and claiming her third win, it was a breakthrough stakes success for the filly, who has now won just short of $270,000 in prizemoney.

It was a satisfying win for jockey Barend Vorster, who has formed a great partnership with Tony and Calvin McEvoy over the past 12 months and won the G1 Newmarket H. on Sunlight last March.

Pedigree Notes:

Sisstar is the second black-type-winner from the multiple stakes-winning mare Solar Charged (Charge Forward), joining Sunlight while Sheikha (Sebring) is stakes placed.

Solar Charged is a half-sister to Listed winner Causeway Queen (Giant's Causeway {USA}) and stakes-placed Brave Soul (More Than Ready {USA}), with their grand-dam Aretha (Sir Dapper) a Listed winner, who produced the stakes-winner Sir Linford (Last Tycoon {Ire}).

Solar Charged has a Sebring 2-year-old colt and a yearling full brother to Sisstar, but missed to Zoustar last year.

Sisstar cost $600,000 at the 2018 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

Flemington, Listed GH Mumm Century S. $175,000, 1000m

Race Summary:

Godolphin’s Soothing (Lonhro) sat well off the pace under rider Craig Williams and when he asked her to let down she did so in electric fashion.

The mare stormed down the outside fence to gun down the pacemaker and 2017 winner Ball Of Muscle (Dubawi {Ire}).

The winner’s stablemate Badajoz (Commands) also made up late ground for third ahead of last year’s winner Thermal Current (Exceed And Excel) , who did well after missing the jump.

Pedigree Notes:

Soothing has an impressive sprinting pedigree as she is out of Dreamy (Bel Esprit), who was successful as a 2-year-old and all three of her foals to race have won.

The dam is a daughter of the stakes performer Song Of The Sun (Desert Sun {GB}) and she is a three-quarter sister to the dam of the champion sprinter Black Caviar (Be Esprit) and the Group 1 winner and producer All Too Hard.

Song Of The Sun is also a half-sister to the dam of the G1 Galaxy H. winner and sire Magnus.

Flemington, Listed TCL TV S., $175,000, 1800m

Race Summary:

A patient ride by Hugh Bowman was rewarded with victory aboard the Chris Waller-trained Pancho (Dissident).

They settled well back in the field and the gelding came down with sustained finish for the third win of his nine-start career.

The favourite Russian Camelot (Ire) (Camelot {GB}) was gallant in defeat and finished well once into the clear to run second.

Pedigree Notes:

A $165,000 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale graduate, Pancho is a son of the Written Tycoon mare Novel Dancer.

She won twice and was Group 3 placed and her dam Strata Title (Strategic) was a multiple winner and a black type performer.

Further down the pedigree page is the G1 VRC Oaks winner Rom’s Stiletto (Sharp Edge {Ire}) and the G3 McNeil S. winner Defcon (Choisir).

Hawkesbury, Listed Lander Toyota Ladies Day Cup, $150,000, 1600m

Race Summary:

Grand campaigner Cellarman (Mossman) has caused a huge upset in the Listed Ladies Day Cup to claim his third black-type victory.

Ridden by comeback jockey Mitchell Bell, Cellarman surged late to defeat Tamarack (NZ) (Redwood {GB}) by a nose, with another short neck back to Taikomochi (Snitzel) in what was a blanket finish.

It's a ninth career victory for the 6-year-old, who races in the Star Thoroughbreds colours and he adds to his stakes success in the 2016 Listed Breakfast Creek Hotel S. and 2018 G3 Doncaster Prelude.

The $84,000 prizemoney for first takes him close to $550,000 in career earnings after 33 starts.

Pedigree Notes:

Cellarman is one of two stakes winners from Vintage Blend (Cape Cross {Ire}), with his half-sister Cellargirl (More Than Ready {USA}) also having black type on her resume.

Vintage Blend was unraced but is a half-sister to Listed winner Vintner (Hennessy {USA}), who left a stakeswinner herself in Fitou (Street Cry {Ire}).

The second dam, Dane Vintage (Danzero) is a half-sister to the champion Triscay (Marscay), while the extended family includes Group 1 winners Demerger (Saithor {USA}) and Defier (Dehere {USA}).

Cellarman was purchased for $50,000 at the 2015 Inglis Melbourne Premier Sale.
