Japan next for stayer

G1 Melbourne Cup runner-up Prince Of Arran (GB) (Shirocco {Ger}) will extend his world travels to include the G1 Japan Cup.

Trainer Charlie Fellowes has confirmed the dual Melbourne Cup placegetter will have his next start in Tokyo on November 24 with the G1 Hong Kong Vase at the International meeting in December still on his radar.

Immediately after the Melbourne Cup, Fellowes was approached by Japanese officials with a formal invitation to the Japan Cup which has now been accepted.

Alizee on target

Alizee (Sepoy) will have her first sight of the straight course at Flemington when she runs in the G1 Darley Sprint Classic after finishing seventh last time out in The Everest.

“We are hoping for a quieter ride here after her 3l Everest defeat. She coursed wide that day and was gallant going down by that margin,” trainer James Cummings said.

“This is her first attempt up the straight six at Flemington. It would be wonderful to see her enjoy a suitable run and pounce on them with her customary finish.”

Gate vital to plan

Chapter And Verse (Rothesay) will be ridden closer to the pace at Doomben after drawing a handy gate in the Listed Keith Noud Quality.

Chapter And Verse

Trainer Desleigh Forster has had Saturday's race earmarked as Chapter And Verse's return race for several months and is resuming after running third in the Listed Eye Liner S. and Glasshouse H. in June.

In both those races he ran home late after being near last in the run.

"We have been able to give him a nice break and then bring him along the way we wanted," Forster said. "He has had two soft trials with the latest a fourth on Monday at Doomben."

Tribute paid

Racing Australia Chairman Greg Nichols has paid tribute to outgoing Chief Executive Officer Barry O’Farrell.

“The Board joins me in thanking Barry for his hard work and dedication to the advancement of Australian racing and breeding and wishes him well in the future,” he said.

“Barry recently advised me that, for professional reasons he’s currently unable to disclose, he was no longer able to continue in the role.”

O’Farrell has been in the role since January 2017, during which he has overseen a period of continued reform and expansion of Racing Australia.

Racing Australia Operations Chief Executive Officer Myles Foreman will assume the role of Acting CEO while the Board considers a replacement process at its November Meeting.

More than reliable

Westbury Stud stallion Reliable Man (GB) has enjoyed a hot run this past week, led by his all-conquering daughter Miami Bound (NZ) who won the G2 Wakeful S. before her dominant victory in the G1 VRC Oaks.

“He has had 10 individual winners in the last seven days and they have won 11 races between them, with Miami Bound winning a Group 1 and Group 2. He has had a phenomenal last seven days,” Westbury Stud General Manager Russell Warwick said.

Bred by Westbury Stud principal Gerry Harvey, Miami Bound became Reliable Man’s second classic winner after Sentimental Miss’ (NZ) heroics in the G1 New Zealand Oaks earlier this year.

Private fee

Cheveley Park’s venerable champion sire and broodmare sire Pivotal (GB), who has sired six black-type winners this season and is the broodmare sire of another 25 with eight of those saluting at the Group 1 level, will stand for a private fee in 2020.

The 26-year-old has 150 black-type winners so far. He is joined at the Newmarket stud by Ulysses (Ire), who has his first yearlings next year, at £15,000 (AU$27,900). Twilight Son (GB) and Mayson (GB) are priced at £7000 (AU$13,000) and £5000 (AU$9300), respectively. Medicean (GB) stallion Dutch Art (GB) will hold court at a private fee.

Telegraph tilt

Trainer Graeme Rogerson says his star sprinter Ferrando (NZ) (Fast ‘n’ Famous) has some unfinished business with the G1 JR & N Berkett Telegraph at Trentham this season.

Ferrando went down by a computer pixel at the hands of Enzo's Lad (Testa Rossa) in this year's race and Rogerson wants to give the 6-year-old stallion his chance to avenge that defeat in January.

"He deserves to win that. I thought he'd won last season. I think most people did," Rogerson said.

With the change to weight-for-age conditions this season, Ferrando will be well suited to the Telegraph, though he will be forced to carry big weights in handicap lead-up races.

Tidy bonus

Sir Charles Road (Myboycharlie {Ire}) will be chasing a healthy bonus at Flemington.

The Lance O'Sullivan and Andrew Scott-trained Sir Charles Road was paid up for Tuesday's Cup, but didn’t make the final field of 24.

However, by making the final payment, which was reimbursed by the club when the gelding missed making the Cup field, connections became eligible for a $200,000 bonus should he win the Queen Elizabeth.

"We knew pretty early on in the piece we weren't going to make it, but we were advised to pay up for the Cup so we were eligible for this bonus. It was a strategic move," Archer said.

Service fees

Shalaa (Ire) (Invincible Spirit {Ire}), who sees his first European 2-year-olds next year, will stand for €25,000 (AU$47,500) in 2020 at Haras de Bouquetot in France. Olympic Glory (Ire) (Choisir), who sired his first Group 1 winner with Watch Me (Fr) in the G1 Coronation S., commands €10,000 (AU$19,000), while €8000 (AU$15,200) is the going rate for Toronado (Ire) (High Chaparral {Ire}).
