He drove the 5-year-old to the front 150 metres from home and the mare held on determinedly for the first Grouop 1 win of her career.
The New Zealand-trained Melody Belle (NZ) (Commands) drew the outside barrier and went back, but finished at a rate of knots for second ahead of the warrior Hartnell (GB) (Authorized {Ire}), who was gallant as ever in defeat and now heads for a well-deserved retirement.

Nature Strip (Nicconi) was quickly into stride and he set up a good clip in front until rider James McDonald asked him to cut loose.
He powered clear 300 metres from home and went strongly to the line to score with ease. The 3-year-old Loving Gaby (I Am Invincible) did well to run second in her first look down the straight and In Her Time (Time Thief) turned in a much improved run for third.

True Self (Ire) (Oscar {Ire}) had run well when runner-up at her previous start in the G3 Geelong Cup and had no trouble going one better.
She was given a good run by Ryan Moore in midfield and as soon as a gap appeared 250 metres from home the 7-year-old was through and was strong to the line. Carif (So You Think {NZ}) chased gamely for second and the genuine Maurus (GB) (Medicean {GB}) was home for third.

Oceanex came with a well-timed finish to account for Miss Siska (So You Think {NZ}) and Aristocratic Miss (Foxwedge).

Reykjavik (Artie Schiller {USA}) jumped quickly and sat in behind the leader before striding to the front half-way down the straight.
The 5-year-old stayed ion strongly under Dean Yendall to give the jockey and trainer Lindsey Smith their first winner of the carnival. Admiral’s Joker (Bel Esprit) drifted well back in the field and he hit the line with purpose for second with Noble Boy (Bon Hoffa) in third.

Peter and Paul Snowden saddled the quinella in the fillies and mares’ feature, with the lightly raced Reelem In Ruby (Pierro) the headline act.
Sent out favourite on the strength of two placed performances in lead-up runs in October, the 4-year-old settled in midfield for jockey Tim Clark before pouncing in the straight and racing to victory by 1.25l – the first black-type win of her 10-start career.
Her stablemate Moss Trip (Mossman) finished second, 0.5l ahead of El Dorado Dreaming (Ilovethiscity).
This was the first winner in the pink equivalent of the Triple Crown Syndications colours, which have been temporarily changed from their traditional red in support of the McGrath Foundation.
Reelem In Ruby has now had 10 starts for four wins, five seconds and a third, earning $547,620 in prizemoney.
Triple Crown paid $90,000 to buy her at the 2017 Inglis Melbourne Yearling Sale, and she had previously been purchased for $75,000 at the Inglis Sydney Weanling Sale.
The Snowden stable will consider running Reelem In Ruby in the G3 Festival S. later this month, with the G1 Coolmore Classic looming as a possible autumn target.
