A weanling daughter of Curlin (USA) was the session topper on the third day of the Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale when she sold for US$775,000 (AU$1.2 million).

Larry Best’s OXO Equine was the successful bidder for the filly, the highest-priced weanling sold at public auction this year, who was consigned by Indian Creek.

The youngster is a half-sister to G3 Iroquois S. winner The Tabulator (USA) (Dialed In {USA}) with their dam the Fly to the Stars (USA) (Giant’s Causeway {USA}).

It’s also the family of the G1 Wood Memorial S. winner Bellamy Road (USA) (Concerto {USA}) and the dual Group 3 winner Calibrachoa (USA) (Southern Image {USA}).

Frank Taylor of Taylor Made was on the phone with Best while the session-topping Curlin filly was in the sales ring.

“He already looked at her and had me bid,” Taylor said. “She’s a nice filly. He loved her and she had a great walk, everything we wanted. I was hoping the price would be a little less, but you never get those good ones like that.”

Slewfoundmoney (USA) (Seeking The Gold {USA}), dam of the Multiple Group 3 winner and millionaire performer Awesome Slew (USA) (Aesome Again {USA}), changed hands at a price of US$585,000 (AU$852,836).

Offered by Warrendale Sale for Live Oak Stud and in foal to Into Mischief (USA), Slewfoundmoney is also the dam of the stakes winner He’s Bankable (USA) (Arch {USA}) and was purchased by agent Arthur Hoyeau.

The China Horse Club made a move for Daveron (Ger) (Black Sam Bellamy {Ire}) and secured her for US$550,000 (AU$802,000) also out of the draft of Warrendale.

She is the dam of the Group winners March To The Arch (USA) (Arch {USA}) and Global Access (USA) (Giant’s Causeway {USA}) and was sold in foal to Uncle Mo (USA).

“They are both collectors’ items,” Warrendale owner Kitty Taylor said. “It is important for people to have the opportunity to get into these kinds of families.

“They were well sold, but we targeted that range. We wanted to be in Book 2 because both are a little bit older and we wanted them to stand out and they did.”

Staying put

The China Horse Club’s bloodstock manager Michael Wallace said Daveron (Ger) would remain in the United States.

“She’ll probably finish our buying this year. We’ll sit down and work out these last few matings for these American mares and tidy it all up.

“Daveron is off to a great start. She’s run herself and she’s done the job already. She has a great cover so there's not much to not like.”

Oliver Sangster

Oliver Sangster paid US$525,000 (AU$765,500) for Multilingual (GB), a 7-year-old daughter of Dansili (GB) in foal to Noble Mission (GB).

Consigned by Mill Ridge Sales, as agent for Juddmonte Farms, Multilingual is a daughter of Group 1 winner Zenda (GB), by Zamindar (USA) and she is a half-sister to multiple Group 1 winner and producer Kingman (GB).

Arrogate filly popular

Early on in the session, McMahon & Hill Bloodstock paid US$425,000 (AU$619,410) for a weanling filly by champion Arrogate (USA), who is a half-sister to 2015 G1 Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint winner Wavell Avenue (USA) (Harlington {USA}).

Gainesway, agent for Bonne Chance Farm, consigned the filly, whose dam is the stakes-placed Silver Deputy (Can) mare Lucas Street (Can).

Arrogate will be represented by his first weanlings at the November Sale.

A total of 232 horses grossed US$31,527,500 (AU$45,955,421) on the third day at an average of US$135,894 (AU$198,093) and a median of US$105,000 (AU$153,061).

Newgate strikes

Newgate were also in the action when SF Bloodstock paid US$330,000 (AU$481,200) on its behalf for March X Press (USA) (Shanghai Bobby {USA}) from the draft of ELiTE.

A stakes winner as a 2-year-old, she is a half-sister to the black type winner Harlan’s Honor (USA) (Harlan’s Holiday {USA}) and is in foal to Tapit (USA).

Newgate also went to US$110,000 (AU$160,400) for Reflect (USA) (Trappe Shot {USA}), who was offered by the same vendor as a racing or breeding proposition.

The chestnut, who is from the family of the G3 winner Edge Of Reality (USA) (Lawyer Ron {USA}) has already showed herself to be a quality performer with a win and a runner-up finish in the G1 Alcibades S.
