Otaki, Listed Levin S. , $50,000, 1200m

Race Summary:

Evalina (I Am Invincible) was given plenty of time to find her feet and had all the field in front of her at the top of the straight.

When rider Danielle Johnson asked her for a serious effort the mare responded and quickly reeled her rivals in to win going away.

What A Smasher (NZ) (Swiss Ace) was second and there was a triple dead-heat for third involving Rock ‘N Affair (NZ) (Rock ‘n’ Pop), Sweepstake (NZ) (Per Incanto {USA}) and Satu Lagi (NZ) (Per Incanto {USA}).

Pedigree Notes :

The Lib Petagna-raced Evalina was a $280,000 Inglis Sydney Easter Yearling Sale purchase and won twice and was stakes placed for Kris Lees before relocating to Stephen Marsh’s stable.

She is a daughter of Tahnee Topaz (Lonhro), who was successful on four occasions and three of her foals to race are winners.

She is a half-sister to the Group performer Tahnee Tango (Grand Lodge {USA}), who produced the G3 Gunsynd Classic winner Worthy Cause (Choisir).

The headline act in this pedigree is the multiple Group 1 winner Shogun Lodge (Grand Lodge {USA}).

Otaki, Listed Wellington S. , $70,000, 1600m

Race Summary:

Scorpz (NZ) (Charm Spirit {Ire}) was given an economical run behind the leaders by Jason Waddell and he was able to get off the fence at the right time.

They hit the front half-way down the straight and the colt stayed on strongly to beat Shenanigans (NZ) (Ocean Park {NZ}), who came from last.

In blinkers for the first time was Tibetan (NZ) (Shocking) and he came on late for third with the filly Siracua (NZ) (Sebring) boxing on for fourth after having every chance.

Pedigree Notes :

Scorpz was originally passed in at New Zealand Bloodstock’s Yearling Sale and is now raced by a syndicate that includes breeders Jomara Bloodstock.

He is a son of Forbetterforworse (Dubawi {Ire}), who is an unraced half-sister to the dual Group 3 winner Fast ‘N’ Rocking (Fastnet Rock) and the stakes winner Good ‘N’ Fast (Sebring).

Further back in the pedigree of Scorpz, whose half-sister by Teofilo (Ire) will be offered at Karaka next year by Hallmark Stud, is the G1 AJC Oaks winner Just Now (Semipalatinsk {USA}) and the G1 South Australian Derby winner Shiva’s Revenge (NZ) (Nassipour {USA}).
