Looking Ahead puts the spotlight on runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are a particularly well-bred or high-priced runner having their first or second start, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse which has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.

On Saturday, a trial winning colt at Rosehill with an impressive pedigree has our full attention while at Kembla Grange a 3-year-old looks set to successfully resume her promising career. Then we go to The Valley where we zero in on a juvenile who hails from a well-performed speed family.

Rosehill, Race 1, 1.15pm, Sky Racing Active H., $125,000, 1100m

Britain (Snitzel) is a particularly well-credentialled colt as he’s a son of the G3 SAJC Breeders’ Plate winner London Lolly (Charge Forward) who is a half-sister to the former champion sprinter and multiple Group 1 winner Chautauqua (Encosta de Lago).

Their dam Lovely Jubly (Lion Hunter) was also a gifted short course performer and won twice at the elite level. Britain is trained by Gregory Hickman and won a trial at Warwick Farm to prepare him for his debut. Tim Clark takes the ride.

She is a half-sister to the stakes winner Tears I Cry (USA) (Chester House {USA}) and this is the family of the multiple Group 1 winner and champion sire Street Cry (Ire).

Secretly as a yearling

A $400,000 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale graduate, Secretly was a debut winner over this course and distance last season for Team Snowden and then spelled after a runner-up finish at Hawkesbury. The 3-year-old has been given two trial outings to have her ready to excel on resuming.

Yulong Island (Exceed And Excel) is a brother to the New Zealand stakes winner Excellent Reward, who is a multiple winner in Hong Kong as Our Folks. They come from a precocious family with their unraced dam Lindisfarne (Viscount) a half-sister to the dual Group 2 winning sprinter El Cambio (Commands) and to the dam of the G1 Blue Diamond S. winner Earthquake (Exceed And Excel).

The second dam Ochultree (Twig Moss (Fr}) won the G2 Surround Stakes and was placed at Group 1 level Prepared by Team Hawkes and to be ridden by Dwayne Dunn, Yulong Island has drawn ideally, and while he hasn’t trialled, he’s sure to be ready to give a bold account.
