Gosford, G3 Gosford RSL Belle of the Turf S., 1600m, $170,000

Race summary:

Tinkermosa (NZ) (Alamosa {NZ}) suffered cardiac arrhythmia when she finished last at Randwick earlier this month, but she bounced back in style in Friday’s fillies and mares’ feature.

Ridden by Jeff Penza for trainer John Sargent, Tinkermosa finished strongly from well back in the field to beat Statuesquely (Medaglia d’Oro {USA}) by a short neck. Saas Fee (All Too Hard) finished third, a length and a quarter behind the first pair.

It was the first stakes win for Tinkermosa, who has now won five of her 23 starts, along with seven minor placings. She has earned $274,240 in stakes for a big group of owners.

Pedigree notes:

Tinkermosa was bred by Wellfield’s Bill Gleeson and was bought for $50,000 from the 2016 New Zealand Bloodstock National Yearling Sale.

She is by the multiple Group 1 winner Alamosa (NZ), who has sired 198 winners from 330 runners with 16 individual stakes winners. That list is headed by the Group 1 winners On The Rocks (NZ), Stolen Dance (NZ) and the Sargent-trained Kirramosa (NZ).

Tinkermosa is one of five winners from five foals to race for the winning Giant’s Causeway mare Tinkerbabu (NZ).

Tinkerbabu is out of the G1 Mackinnon S. winner La Bella Dama (NZ) (Desert Sun {GB}), who is the dam of six winners including Group 2 winner La Rocket (Rock of Gibraltar {Ire}) and stakes-placed Macau Causeway (Giant’s Causeway {USA}) and Voile Rouge (NZ) (Encosta de Lago).

Gosford, Listed Under the Southern Stars Gosford Guineas, 1200m, $150,000

Race summary:

Hightail (Written Tycoon) produced a bold audition for the Magic Millions Guineas at the Gold Coast on January 11, for which he is now the third favourite.

Ridden by Hugh Bowman for trainers Peter and Paul Snowden, Hightail produced a powerful finish from well back in the field to edge out his stablemate Battleground (Snitzel) by a neck. Third-placed Splintex (Snitzel) finished another three-quarters of a length away in third.

Hightail has now had three wins and five placings from his 11 starts for owners Newgate S F, China Horse Club, Horse Ventures, Winstar Farm, Newgate Bloodstock, Nick Vass Bloodstock, New Woodside Park and G1G Racing & Breeding. He has earned $586,140 in stakes. This was his first stakes win. He had previously finished second to Condo’s Express (Rubick) in the Listed McKenzie S. at Moonee Valley, and third in last season’s Magic Millions 2YO Classic.

Pedigree notes:

Hightail was bred by Woodside Park Stud and was a $520,000 purchase from the 2018 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale. He is the 31st individual stakes winner for top sire Written Tycoon, whose overall total stands at 497 winners from 678 runners.

Hightail’s dam is the unraced La Paris (Falvelon), a half-sister to Ringa Ringa Rosie (Bradbury’s Luck), who won the Listed Hampden S. and placed in the G1 T.J. Smith Classic.

The third dam is La Caissiere (Luskin Star), who won six races including the G2 Flight S., G2 Wakeful S. and G3 Surround S. She also placed in the G1 Champagne S. and Queensland Oaks.

La Caissiere produced four stakes performers including G1 Flight S. winner Dashing Eagle (Danehill {USA}). Her other progeny have been dams or granddams of numerous stakes performers, including Osborne Bulls (Street Cry {Ire}), Viridine (Poet’s Voice {GB}) and Brief Embrace (Irgun {USA}).
