Toronado (Ire) x Rainbow Queen (filly)
Lot 399 - Inglis Classic Yearling Sale
TDN AusNZ: How did you decide on this particular mating?
Swettenham Stud: Rainbow Queen had already had one to the races, a multiple winner in Singapore named Silver Joy (All American) - so we knew she could produce a real racehorse. Being a Royal Academy mare and a half-sister to two stakes winners, we wanted to make sure Rainbow Queen had every opportunity. So we decided to send her to Toronado in his third season, on the back of what we had seen of his foals and yearlings so far. Based on this filly, it was a great decision!
TDN AusNZ: What was the foaling down like and initial comments on the foal?
Swettenham Stud: She was a lovely foal right from the start. The foaling was very straight-forward and she was up and walking within minutes.
She was a notably fluent mover, even as a foal and she has always had plenty of leg. She reminds us a lot of her full brother who has some good wraps on him from a great judge.
TDN AusNZ: What was the horse like as a weanling?
Swettenham Stud: She was always a very forward weanling. We considered sending her to sale as a weanling but decided that the progeny of Toronado would have had more opportunity to prove themselves, and this has come to fruition with Still A Star being a dual stakes winning filly in the meantime. Being as flashy as she is, and with her incredible attitude, she was always a favourite with the staff at the farm.
TDN AusNZ: How is the horse handling prep so far? Does it have a nickname? Particular traits/personality?
Lime Country, Vendor: She would definitely be one of the most mentally mature horses in our draft - absolutely nothing phases her, she always eats everything and is very sweet natured. We don’t have a specific nickname for her, but sometimes she gets called 'Queenie' or 'Blondie' because she has bright blonde streaks through her tail.
Swettenham Stud: Lime Country have done such a magnificent job with her. She’s handled the prep with ease and all reports are that she does everything asked of her. She is an intelligent horse who wants to learn and wants to impress, which is very typical of the stallion.
