Looking Ahead puts the spotlight on runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are a particularly well-bred or high-priced runner having their first or second start, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse which has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.
On Wednesday, a son of Deep Impact (Jpn) looks to break his maiden at Warwick Farm, while at Sandown, we have a couple of debutants, one from the Anthony Freedman's stable and one prepared by Ciaron Maher and David Eustace, who both have Group 1 winners on their pedigree pages.

The Peter and Paul Snowden-trained Adversity (Deep Impact {Jpn}) put in a terrific debut at Newcastle last time out, charging from a long way back to finish third in a run which indicated a big future for the well-bred colt, especially up to longer distances.

He was a $450,000 buy for China Horse Club and Newgate Bloodstock at the 2019 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale. He is the first foal from Bring Me The Maid (Sebring), who was a multiple Group 2 winner and was placed in a G1 Golden Slipper S. She is from the family of Slipper winner Polar Success (Success Express {USA}) and the likes of stakes winners Ain't Seen Nothin' (Nothin' Leica Dane), Sambro (Fastnet Rock) and Bons Away (Bon Hoffa).

Perfect World (Pride Of Dubai) makes her debut for Freedman and has got a bit of a pedigree to live up to. She is a half-sister to Group 1 winner Silent Sedition (War Chant {USA}) as well as two other winners, out of the unraced Fiorentina (Dubai Destination {USA}), a half-sister to G1 Dubai World Cup winner Monterosso (Dubawi {Ire}). The second dam is the Group 1 winner Porto Roca (Barathea {Ire}).

She was a $300,000 Inglis Easter Sale buy for her trainer and Blue Sky Bloodstock. She has been competitive enough in a couple of recent Balnarring jump-outs to suggest she won't be far away in her first assignment here.
Sandown Lakeside, Race 2, 4:15pm AEDT, Clanbrooke Racing Plate, $50,000, 1300m
Sky Horse (NZ) (Tavistock {NZ}) was a NZ$180,000 New Zealand Bloodstock National Yearling Sale purchase at Karaka two years ago for Yulong. She is a half-sister to the Group 1 placed filly The Lustre (NZ) (Darci Brahma {NZ}) out of the stakes winner The Pearler (NZ) (Volksraad {GB}).

That's the New Zealand 'The' family which has been making an impression for the past 30-40 years on either side of the Tasman, including stakes winners The Wink (NZ) (Noble Bijou {USA}) and The Penny (NZ) (One Pound Sterling {GB}), and Group 1 winners The Jewel (NZ) (O'Reilly {NZ}), The Phantom (NZ) (Noble Bijou {USA}) and The Phantom Chance (NZ) (Noble Bijou {USA}).
She showed early pace in a recent Geelong trial, before fighting on well to finish within a length of the winner and her trainers Maher and Eustace obviously think she has enough ability to debut in city midweek class.
