Looking Ahead puts the spotlight on runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are a particularly well-bred or high-priced runner having their first or second start, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse which has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.
On Wednesday, a pricey colt from the Snowden stable resumes at Kensington, where a blueblood filly from Kim Waugh's stable also looks for her first win, while at Sandown, we see the return of a filly who made huge strides with four wins in her first campaign.

Barbaric (I Am Invincible) is an impeccably bred colt resuming from his one previous run when sixth in the G3 Breeders' Plate in October, less than 4l behind Global Quest (More Than Ready {USA}). The Peter and Paul Snowden-trained colt has looked pretty sharp at a couple of recent trials and this looks a suitable place for him to break his maiden.

He cost a syndicate headed by China Horse Club $900,000, and little wonder given he is a strapping looking son of multiple Group and Magic Millions 2YO Classic winner Mimi Le Brock (Show A Heart), who has already produced the stakes placed Diddles (Snitzel) and is a half-sister to Group 3 winning pair Heavenly Thought (So You Think {NZ}) and Shoko (Sebring).
Kensington, Race 4, 3:30pm AEDT, Holler@Darley Hcp, $50,000, 1400m
Reaching (Deep Impact {Jpn}) has legitimate claims to being the best-bred horse running in Australia on Wednesday, being out of the star mare Alinghi (Encosta De Lago), who won four Group 1s in a brilliant career. She is yet to produce one with quite her ability and only two of her five foals to the track have been winners, but this filly does look promising.
Prepared by Kim Waugh, she had two starts in her first campaign, finishing third in a strong maiden at Newcastle before finding one better at her next start at Wyong. She has had a very good recent trial win and up the 1400 metres here looks entirely suitable for her to break through for a win.

Sandown, Hillside Race 5, 6pm AEDT, The Big Screen Company Hcp, $50,000, 1000m
The Mobot (Uncle Mo {USA}) made giant strides in her first campaign, winning races at Warracknabeal, Bairnsdale, Tatura and Morphettville before finding the Group 3 company at Flemington during Cup week a little too tough. She resumes here in a BM70 race having finished fourth in a recent Caulfield jump-out.
She has proven a great buy at just $50,000 from the 2018 Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale. She is out of a very good sprinter, Segments (Mossman), who won a G2 Schillaci S. and Listed Gimcrack S. and was runner-up in a G1 Oakleigh Plate. This filly is one of her four winners and shapes as though she might be her best yet.
