Trainer Henry Dwyer savoured a special result at The Valley where Ms Catherine (Shooting To Win) maintained her perfect form line with success in Friday night’s G3 Typhoon Tracy S.
The Caulfield conditioner was delighted for the 3-year-old’s owners, the Bongiorno family who also bred the filly, and for his stable apprentice Georgina Cartwright who repaid the faith shown in her in style.
It was a career high result for Cartwright, 26, whose previous best day in the saddle had been a Listed win in the 2018 Balaklava Cup aboard Temps Voleur (Time Thief).
“I am very proud of her to be honest. She’s done it the tough way as she’s been an apprentice for a long time, but she’s a great worker and it’s great she could win her first Group race on this horse,” Dwyer said.
He has no firm plans for Ms Catherine and may even consider some time in the paddock for the progressive filly.
Ms Catherine, who has been ridden by Cartwright in all three of her starts, was a debut winner at Bendigo in November before a break. She returned to win at The Valley earlier this month in a BM64 event and handled the rise to stakes company with aplomb.
Bold front-running display
As is her style, Ms Catherine was quickly into stride to lead and, after kicking clear into the straight, held on gamely to beat Tenley (Medaglia D’Oro {USA}) and Don’ttelltheboss (Street Boss {USA}) with the favourite Sassy Salitage (Toronado {{Ire}) next home.
“She flies the gate and does everything right. She probably doesn’t want any more than 1200 metres and she was too good,” Cartwright said.

The first Group winner for her Darley-based sire, Ms Catherine is bred for speed and is a daughter of Lucky Diva (Perugino {USA}).
She won 11 races up to 1200 metres, including the G3 Hyderabad Race Club S. and the Listed Smoke-Free S., and five of her six foals to race have been successful.
She is a sister to the Listed Kevin Hayes S. winner Gina Lollowiitcha and a half-sister to the G3 Tattersall’s Cup winner Spirit Of Westbury (NZ) (Sir Tristram {Ire}). It’s also the family of Catechuchu (Catbird), who won three times at Group 3 level and a brace of Listed events.
