Valachi Downs: General Manager
Valachi Downs is a thoroughbred stud based in Matamata, located in the heart of one of New Zealand’s finest thoroughbred nurseries.
The business proudly seeks to breed, educate, sell and race elite thoroughbreds. The stud operates on over 600 acres and operations cover the full spectrum of breeding, pre-training and racing activities including ownership of its own private training property.
The business is now seeking to fill the position of General Manager to oversee all aspects of its business. Significant responsibilities include:
- Providing input to the strategic direction of the stud
- Leading the management team and a staff of 30+ employees
- Managing the breeding programme of 100+ mares
- Overseeing a stallion business with 3 standing stallions
- Directing yearling, ready to run and other sales
- Managing the farming operations of a working stud
- Providing commercial and financial oversight
- Communicating with industry partners and business owners

Portelli Racing: Stable Foreman
An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced Stable Foreman to join the Portelli Racing team (based at Warwick Farm), starting in March 2020.
The successful candidate will:
- Ensure the efficient, effective and safe day-to-day running of the yard
- Manage the tie-up stalls during track work hours and at barrier trials
- Attend race days as a stable representative, as required
- Assist our stable veterinarian with trot-up inspections, treatments and schedules
- Ensure that the well-being of all employees and horses is regarded with the highest importance
- Be capable of overseeing feeding routines, tacking, horse movements, race day preparation, general maintenance of facilities and equipment
Applicants must:
- Have a good understanding of the health & safety obligations within a stable
- Be capable of effectively managing stable staff along with work rosters
- Have excellent horse handling skills & be capable of assisting with educating young horses
- Be reliable and punctual
- Have transportation and a current driver’s license
Previous experience in a similar role is essential. Generous remuneration package including an excellent self contained two bedroom unit is available for the successful applicant.

Bhima has an exciting opportunity for a special someone to join one of the most regarded and proven (and fun!) yearling preparation consignors and breeding farms.
This is a full-time permanent position with live-in options available.
The successful applicant (winner!) will possess the following attributes:
• Turnout yearlings to the highest standards
• Understand and implement our feeding schedule and adjust accordingly
• Have the ability to direct and train young staff (teach, not yell at)
• Manage yearlings exercise and training schedule
