Looking Ahead puts the spotlight on runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are a particularly well-bred or high-priced runner having their first or second start, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse which has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.
On Thursday, a well-bred daughter of Sebring resumes for Lindsay Park at Kyneton, we check out a son of Spirit Of Boom at Rockhampton, while a regally bred 3-year-old debuts at Pakenham.

Edinburgh (Sebring) is yet to break her maiden after eight starts but she has contested much better races than this and resumes off a good trial performance recently at Wodonga which suggests she might finally break through here.

A $140,000 purchase for her trainers at the 2018 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale, she is out of a family the Hayes know well being a granddaughter of Elegant Fashion (Danewin), who David Hayes won a Hong Kong Derby with. Her dam, Queen's Fashion (Encosta De Lago), has produced one winner, Fashion Sense (Exceed And Excel).
Rockhampton, Race 3, 4:35pm AEDT, USG Boral 2YO Mdn, $17,000, 1200m
Legal Chance (Spirit Of Boom) did a lot wrong back on debut at this track in November, but did hit the line full of running and would no doubt have benefitted from some time in the paddock ahead of his return here.
Legal Chance as a yearling
A $28,000 buy for his trainer at the Magic Millions March Sale last year, his pedigree boasts some nice horses. His dam, Leave It To Chance (Lucky Owners) is a half-sister to Group 3 winner Voodoo Beat (Sir Tristram {Ire}) as well as Savanna La Mar (NZ) (Stravinsky {USA}), who is the dam of Group 2 winner Savanna Amour (Love Conquers All).
Pakenham, Race 3, 7pm AEDT, Shaweld Engineering 3YO Mdn, $35,000, 1400m
Think Champayne (So You Think {NZ}) is, as the name would suggest, prepared by Melbourne Cup-winning jockey Michelle Payne, who purchased him with Paul Willetts and First Light Racing for $120,000 at the 2018 Inglis Melbourne Premier Sale.

The connection with the Melbourne Cup doesn’t end there with his sire having run third in the 2010 edition and his dam, Champagne (NZ) (Zabeel {NZ}), having finished second in 1998. She was a three-time Group 1 winner who has produced two stakes-winners in Nadege (Giant's Causeway {USA}) and Martique (Danehill {USA}). From his trials, this gelding looks a horse that may take some time and distance, but he is definitely one worth following.
