The Hunter Valley farm has been the source of a pair of the leading lights among a 3-year-old division of unquestionable depth and, with SF Bloodstock, also races the recent G1 Coolmore Classic winner Con Te Partiro (USA) (Scat Daddy {USA}).
Newgate was established in 2010 by Henry Field on a leased property of 250 acres and has quickly emerged as one of the major thoroughbred forces in the country with the operation now encompassing 1700 acres of prime land and the ensuing racetrack results.

“It’s been great and the farms that we’re on have produced a ton of good horses and this year has been no exception,” Field said.
“We had the G1 Randwick Guineas winner Shadow Hero the other day and the G1 Coolmore winner Exceedance and they are two of the best 3-year-olds in the country in a very strong crop.
“That’s not to mention the G2 Skyline S. winner and G1 Golden Slipper placegetter Mamaragan, who is favourite for the G1 Sires’ Produce S. on Saturday.”
Golden opportunities
Newgate will present another draft long on quality at the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale and Field is nothing but positive about the opportunities on offer at the online only auction at the Riverside Stables on April 5-8.
In obviously difficult circumstances, Newgate is embracing the sale and the chance to present its top end youngsters.

“We’re not complaining at all and very thankful that Inglis is putting the sale on. I think everybody is banding together to support it and there’s a commitment from vendors to try and keep the level of quality high,” Field said.
“That will give buyers confidence and the vendors have kept their best horses for the sale. I think at the end of the day it’s certainly going to be a buyers’ market, the shoe is on the buyers’ foot.”
Newgate, and partners, will also be active on the other side of the fence in a purchasing capacity.
“I think we will go through the process and participate on the buying side, but obviously very value conscious,” Field said.
“It is a great opportunity for buyers because you’ve got the cream of the Australian yearling crop all on offer. There will be sensational buying to be had.

“For serious industry players, there’s probably no better opportunities to buy horses that are so hard to get hold of.
“The stakemoney will still be very good and if you go and buy some high quality fillies in this sale, the cash flow you generate will be for the period of the next 10 years.
“As long as you are dealing with blue chip stock, there will be any number of opportunities to take advantage of.”
Newgate will offer a draft of 21 and close to half of them by first-season sires, including residents Capitalist, Extreme Choice, Flying Artie and Winning Rupert.
“We support the horses very aggressively and we’ve got some really lovely yearlings by our stallions in the Easter Sale,” Field said. “We’ve got three smashing Capitalist colts, really nice and held back for Easter because we feel they are so good.”
Lot 251 is out of the dual stakes-winner Traveston Girl (Flying Spur) and the family of the three-time Group 1 winner Defier (Dehere {USA}); Lot 346 is out of a Redoute’s Choice mare who is a daughter of the G1 Winter S. winner Absolut Glam (Snowland) and Lot 474 is a half-brother to multiple winner and Group 2 performer Press Report (Written Tycoon).
“We’ve got a Winning Rupert colt out of Plethora who is literally identical to his sire and we’ve got an array of sensational fillies, we really do.” - Henry Field
“We’ve got a Winning Rupert colt out of Plethora who is literally identical to his sire and we’ve got an array of sensational fillies, we really do,” Field said.
“They include a sister to Shadow Hero, an I Am Invincible out of Forever Loved and a couple of fillies out of the lovely Shantha’s Choice family. One is out of Quench The Thirst and one out of Your Life Style.”
Lot 137 is the Winning Rupert lookalike and is out of the stakes-winner Plethora (USA) (First Samurai {USA}), who is from a well-performed international black type family.
The sister to the dual Group 1 winner Shadow Hero (Pierro) is Lot 215 and Lot 455 is the daughter of I Am Invincible and the G3 Blazer S. winner and G1 Vinery Stud S. placegetter Forever Loved (NZ) (High Chaparral {Ire}).
Lot 152 is the Snitzel out of Quench The Thirst (Encosta De Lago) youngster while Lot 295 is by I Am Invincible from Your Life Style (Hussonet {USA}).
“There is a lot of quality in the sale and we’ve got some very special fillies in our draft that will represent sensational opportunities,” Field said.
“We’ve got some lovely colts as well and they are going to be real value. It’s an opportunity for people to buy quality and buy on their terms. "
Despite the uncertainty of the current times, Field is convinced the Newgate draft will go on to prove themselves in later life.
“Obviously, how they sell is anyone’s guess at the moment, but I’m very confident they will turn out to be very good racehorses,” he said.
