Exceed And Excel x Reply Churlish (NZ) (filly)

Lot 159 - Inglis Easter Yearling Sale

Vendor: Willow Park Stud

TDN AusNZ: How did you decide this particular mating

Willow Park Stud: "Glenn Burrows bought this mare off the track for some long term clients. He says 'being an O'Reilly mare from a lovely family, I followed her career closely and she showed good ability in winning four straight, in my opinion she had stakes class ability."

"On behalf of the breeders, Michael Otto says 'our partnership wanted a top class, proven stallion, that matched well with our mare on pedigree and type. Exceed And Excel ticked these boxes, plus we knew he had covered earlier books of quality mares, whose progeny would be running around the time we would have a yearling to sell. We are right on the mark, Exceed And Excel has had another outstanding season. Class is permanent!'"

TDN AusNZ: What was the foaling down like and initial comments on the foal?

Willow Park Stud: "Her foaling was attended by Brett Wise and Lisa Richards. The filly was born right on midnight on August 17, 10 days overdue. Foaling was straight forward, she was up in 37 minutes. Brett loved this filly from the night she was born, commenting she was a nice, strong type, a good-boned filly with substance."

TDN AusNZ: What was the horse like as a weanling?

Jade Rossington, Willow Park Stud: "She could be strong willed at times during weanling handling, but was a quick learner! She reminded us a lot of her older half-sister, who sold for $1 million as a yearling."

TDN AusNZ: How is the horse handling prep so far? Does it have a nickname? Particular traits/personality?

Lisa Richards, Willow Park Stud: "She's been a breeze to prep, never left a crumb of feed and loves her work. One of the staff members nicknamed her 'Relish' as a youngster. She is always busy going somewhere!"
