Looking Ahead puts the spotlight on runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are a particularly well-bred or high-priced runner having their first or second start, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse which has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.
Today, we check out a couple of trial performers from speedy families who debut at Rosehill while at Ladbrokes Park a promising colt with form behind a Group 1 performer has our attention on his return from a break.
Rosehill, Race 1, 1.25pm AEDT, Hyland Race Colours H., $50,000, 1200m
Selburose (I Am Invincible) has plenty of precocity in her close up pedigree and she can put that to good use here from a handy gate with James McDonald to guide her fortunes. The filly has already showed she has inherited a measure of the family ability with two wins and a placing from three preparatory trials.
I Am Invincible sire of Selburose | Standing at Yarraman Park Stud
Trained by Chris Waller, Selburose is a daughter of Rose Pattern (Redoute’s Choice) and she was a capable mare who was the metropolitan winner of five races up to 1400 metres. She is out of G2 Champagne S. and G3 Sapphire S. winner Fair Embrace (Strategic), who also ran third in the G1 Telegraph H. The G1 Coolmore Stud S. winner Headway (Charge Forward) is another member of this family.
Rosehill, Race 2, 2.00pm AEDT, Iron Jack Plate, $50,000, 1300m
The First Ring (Olympic Glory {Ire}) also hails from a sharp family and is a half-brother to two winners, including Tchaikovsky (Redoute’s Choice) who was placed in the G2 Todman S. Their dam Ballet Blue (Stravinsky {USA}) is an unraced half-sister to the G2 Maribyrnong Plate winner The Heavyweight (Zeditave).
The First Ring as a yearling
The genuine multiple black-type winner Malibu Style (Magnus) features on the pedigree page, as does the dual Listed winner Excelorada (Exceed And Excel). Trained by the Waterhouse-Bott combination, The First Ring was a trial winner at Gosford earlier this month and is blessed with an inside gate.
Ladbrokes Park, Race 1, 1.00pm AEDT, Ladbrokes Plate, $50,000, 1300m
Beau Zoom (Brazen Beau) makes a fresh start here for trainer Neville Parnham and on the evidence of his first preparation the colt’s chance needs to be taken seriously. He hasn’t raced since he closed his spring preparation with a runner-up finish at Geelong behind Groundswell (Fastnet Rock), who went on to place in the G1 Caulfield Guineas.
Beau Zoom as a yearling
A $160,000 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale graduate, Beau Zoom’s dam Cornelia Marie (Reset) won six races including the Listed Oakbank S. She is a half-sister to the black-type winner Chitabe (Perugino {USA}) and the family of successful sire Better Than Ready and the Group winners Illustrious Lad (I Am Invincible) and Publishing (Testa Rossa).
