Away Game (Snitzel) has got a healthy appetite for racing and the iron filly continued her sparkling form at Randwick where she added victory in the G2 Percy Sykes S.

The youngster, surely the country’s top female 2-year-old, produced a dominant performance to add the Heineken 3-sponsored feature to her list of exploits this season.

The Ciaron Maher and David Eustace-trained youngster also has wins in the G3 Widden S., the Magic Millions 2YO Classic and the Listed Calaway Gal S. on her CV, as well as a runner-up finish in the G1 Golden Slipper S.

“It’s unbelievable. She’s run every month since November and it’s a real credit to the team to keep her up this long,” said Annabel Neasham, who runs the operation’s Sydney yard.

“We’ve spaced her runs and were pretty confident she was coming in as good as she was for the Slipper. She’s just so tough, we put her in the paddock for a week at Peter Nestor’s place and he kept ringing me saying she needs to come back in, she’s flying.

“She’s a bonny filly who loves being in work, but we’ll probably give her a break now. There’s nothing much for her unless she was to go up to Brisbane.

“I’d say she’d have that break and look forward to her in the spring.”

Away Game sat in fourth spot to the turn and when rider Glen Boss asked her an effort in the straight she responded in style to cruise clear to have 1.5l on Vangelic (Vancouver) with See You Soon (Siyouni {Fr}) making ground well for third.

"I said to Ciaron when I rode her on Tuesday that you just love being on her back because she has so much enthusiasm and life," Boss said.

"She's a good filly to be on and her record is second to none now so I dare say she will get a lot of votes for 2-year-old of the year."

Away Game as a yearling

Bred by Mill Park Stud, Away Game was a $425,000 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale buy for Kerri Radcliffe Bloodstock and is a sister to the Listed winner Modern Wonder.

The dam Elusive Wonder (Elusive Quality {USA}) was a 2-year-old winner and stakes performer and is a half-sister to Tantra (Royal Academy {USA}), successful at Listed level.

Champagne on ice

Expensive youngster Untamed (Pierro) has a stallion’s pedigree and he is likely to get the opportunity to lift his profile next weekend in the G1 Champagne S.

Trainers Peter and Paul Snowden and connections will seriously look at the quick back-up with the colt following his success in the Listed Cellarbrations Fernhill H.

“There is every chance that he will as long as he pulls up well enough. Hopefully, he will take his place in the Champagne,” Paul Snowden said.

Untamed sat close to the pace on the rail under rider Nash Rawiller and he finished determinedly in the closing stages to collar Wheelhouse (Pierro), who had challenged three wide at the top of the straight.

“He’s out to a trip he enjoys and all he wants to do is please. He’s always had a tendency to relax and we’ve always thought he'd appreciate 1600 metres and a bit further,” Snowden said.

Untamed as a yearling

Untamed was bred by Luskin Park Stud and they sold him at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale to the China Horse Club and Newgate Bloodstock for $450,000.

He is out of the unraced She’s A Wildcat (Fastnet Rock), who is a sister to the G1 William Reid S. winner and successful sire Foxwedge, sire of three Group 1 winners – Volpe Veloce, Foxplay and Urban Fox.

Also a sister to the stakes-winner She’s A Fox, She’s A Wildcat was unraced and has a 100 per cent record at stud with all three of her foals successful.
