Looking Ahead - April 16

Looking Ahead puts the spotlight on runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are a particularly well-bred or high-priced runner having their first or second start, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse which has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.

On Thursday, an impressive jump-out winner debuts at Wangaratta, while at Wyong, John Thompson debuts a well-related filly and a Snitzel gelding looks to break his maiden.

Wangaratta, Race 1, 12:55pm AEST, Tim Aumann Plumbing 2YO Mdn, $20,700, 1100m

Twist Of Fury (Written Tycoon) debuts for David Brideoake here off what looked a very impressive jump-out win at Mornington. She jumped on the pace there and extended very nicely late to win comfortably in the manner of a filly who will not be long breaking her maiden.

Twist Of Fury as a yearling

She was a $90,000 Inglis Classic Sale purchase for Platinum Breeding, Pinhook Bloodstock and Suman Hedge. She is the first foal from G3 Birthday Card S. winner Shamalia (Shamardal {USA}), who was sold for $300,000 in foal to Sebring last year and is a half-sister to stakes-winner Emperor's Way (Roman Emperor {NZ}). Further back, the family features a host of top American horses, including G1 Hollywood Derby winner Super Quercus (Fr) (Hero's Honor {USA}).

Wyong, Race 2, 1:50pm AEST, Rapid Clean Central Coast Mdn, $31,500, 1000m

More Prophets (Smart Missile), as the name would indicate, is a half-sister to Listed winner Prophet's Thumb (I Am Invincible) and is also raced in the interests of breeders Bell River Thoroughbreds and Bob Hogno, having been passed in when offered through the 2018 Inglis Classic Sale.

The dam is Set To Skelter (Reset), a sister to Listed winner Module, out of Listed Breeders' Classic winner Miss Helterskelter (Brocco {USA}). This filly looked impressive when winning a recent Randwick trial having sat deep throughout and under the guidance of John Thompson, looks ready to progress quickly through her classes.

Wyong, Race 3, 2:25pm AEST, Go Electrical Mdn, $31,500, 1350m

Secretly Awesome (Snitzel) was only narrowly beaten at his recent debut at Newcastle and should take natural improvement into this race for trainer Gerald Ryan, with Keagan Latham again in the saddle.

Snitzel, sire of Secretly Awesome | Standing at Arrowfield Stud

He is the half-brother to the Group 1 placed Frankly Awesome (Frankel {GB}) and was passed in at a $250,000 reserve at the 2018 Inglis Premier Sale and retained to race by Cressfield. His imported dam, Street Secret (USA) (Street Cry {Ire}), is an American stakes winner from the extended family of G1 Epsom Derby winners and star stallions Sea The Stars (Ire) and Galileo (Ire).
