Stanley has come full circle with the talented mare Dyslexic (Foxwedge), who runs in the G3 Emirates Park Dark Jewel Classic at Rosehill and has done particularly well since her last visit there when third in the G3 Hawkesbury Crown.
Under his Cloud 9 Thoroughbreds banner, Stanley purchased Dyslexic for $140,000 out of Newgate Farm’s draft at the 2016 Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale.
“I bought her as a yearling and then she went to the Hawkes stable when I got suspended,” he said. “She stayed there to see if we could get a stakes win with her, but it didn’t quite work out and now she’s back here to try and tick that box on Saturday.”
Dyslexic as a yearling
Dyslexic won three times for John, Michael and Wayne Hawkes and was a multiple placegetter at both Group 2 and 3 level before returning to Stanley’s Sutton Grange stable.
She was a trial winner before a midfield finish when resuming in the Listed Manihi S. at Morphettville and most recently was an unlucky third behind Sweet Scandal (Sepoy).
“She’s going really well and her last-start she was a little bit stiff. She drew inside and jumped out well and then came back a couple of lengths further than we would have liked,” Stanley said. “She got held up, but ran through the line really strongly.”

James Innes Jnr rode Dyslexic last time out and he will retain the mount in the Dark Jewel and has also been booked for stablemate Monitizing (Turffontein) in the Listed Coolmore Denise’s Joy S.
“She’s racing well, she’s coming back strongly. Whether she’s at that grade yet or not is the question mark,” Stanley said. “There are simply no races for her down here in Melbourne, no 3-year-old fillies’ races over a 1000 or 1100 metres.
“They are all over further and no stakes races so we’ll try and tick that box with some black type.”
Monitizing kicked off her current campaign with her maiden victory at Bendigo in April and returned there earlier this month to easily win a BM64 sprint. Both of her successes have been over 1000 metres.
Centaurea start
Meanwhile, Stanley’s prayers have been answered with Cryptic Jewel (NZ) (Savabeel) coming off the ballot with the scratching of Supre (High Chaparral {Ire}) to gain a start in the Listed AAMI Centaurea S.
She has finished in the money in each of her last two appearances over a mile and the step up to a middle distance is expected to enhance her chances.

“She’s just been terribly unlucky, just the way her races have been run and the distances and that’s just what has been available,” Stanley said.
“The 2030 metres against her own sex really should suit her, I think she’ll be very hard to beat.”
Stanley also fancies the chances of stable stalwart Violate (Sebring) when he steps out in the Seppelt Wines H. at Flemington, where he has a smart record.
Violate was unplaced when resuming at Caulfield, but is expected to produce a significantly-improved display.

“He just flowed along behind them, which he can do sometimes when he gets back on the inside. I’ve got him going as well as I’ve had him for a long time and his last couple of pieces of work have been sensational,” Stanley said.
“I’ve kept him for this race at Flemington and his 1400 metre form there is very good, he’s won a couple of stakes races there. There will be no excuses on Saturday, if he races up to his best he should be able to beat them.”
Violate is a past course and distance winner at Flemington of the G3 Shaftesbury Avenue H., in which he beat the subsequent G1 Futurity S. winner Streets Of Avalon (Magnus) and the Listed Tontonan S.
