Looking Ahead - June 3

3 min read

Looking Ahead puts the spotlight on runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are a particularly well-bred or high-priced runner having their first or second start, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse which has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.

Today, we are concentrating our efforts on the Kensington track where we like a colt who was sound on debut, a well-related filly having her first start and a 3-year-old who looks in line to post the first winning strike of her fledgling career.

Sharpshooter (Hinchinbrook) was a $280,000 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale purchase and is a half-brother to the three-time Listed winner Caipiranha (Nicconi). Their dam is Prostar (Starcraft {NZ}) and she is a half-sister to Collate (Catbird), who won the G3 Frederick Clissold H., and the G3 Cameron H.

Their dam Calfree (Canny Lad) is a half-sister to the G2 Bill Stutt S. winner Burrito (Marscay) and the family of the Group 3 winners Posadas (Commands), Direct Charge (Charge Forward) and Petrol Power (Snitzel). Sharpshooter was runner-up on debut, and while soundly beaten the winner Anders (Not A Single Doubt) has since been successful again so it is a solid form reference for this.

Kensington, Race 2, 1.25pm AEST, Exceedance @ Vinery H., $45,000, 1100m

Rosa Moyessi (I Am Invincible) steps out for the first time on race day and based on her trial showings she can make a quick impact. She was successful in her latest appearance at Randwick and from a handy gate is worth serious attention.

The filly is a daughter of Lady Lynette (Ladoni {GB}), who was a quality mare and the winner of 14 races including the G2 Blazer S., two editions of the G3 Tesio S. and finished runner-up in the G1 Myer Classic. Further back in the pedigree is the presence of the influential stallion Without Fear (Fr).

More Prophets (Smart Missile) has yet to finish out of the money in her brief career and looks in line for a breakthrough victory here. The filly got home strongly for a close second at Kembla Grange last time out and is poised to go one better.

More Prophets as a yearling

A half-sister to the Listed Fireball S. winner Prophet’s Thumb (I Am Invincible), More Prophets is a daughter of the winning Reset mare Set To Skelter. She is a sister to the stakes-winner Module and their dam Miss Helterskelter (Brocco {USA}) was also successful at black type level.
