Looking Ahead puts the spotlight on runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are a particularly well-bred or high-priced runner having their first or second start, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse which has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.
Today, Peter and Paul Snowden will present two top chances at Canterbury Park, a colt with race day experience and a debutante with winning trial form. At Ladbrokes Park, we like a filly making a fresh start and she placed behind a Group 1 performer at her last appearance before a break.
Canterbury Park, Race 2, 2pm AEST, All Too Hard @ Vinery H., $45,000, 1250m
Oregon (Zoustar) was a trial winner for Peter and Paul Snowden before he ran third on debut over this course and distance and then stepped up to Saturday grade to finish a sound fourth at Randwick. The colt takes a step back in class here and with race day experience under his belt makes strong appeal.
Oregon as a yearling
He was a $225,000 Inglis Great Southern Weanling Sale buy and on-sold at a handsome profit at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale where he made $700,000. A half-brother to a pair of multiple winners, Oregon’s dam Canyonville (NZ) (Black Minnaloushe {USA}) won four sprint races and is a half-sister to the three-time Listed winner Joan’s Best (NZ) (Gold Brose). It’s also the family of the G1 Western Australian Derby winner Markus Maximus (NZ) (Pentire {GB}).
Canterbury Park, Race 3, 2.35pm AEST, Harry Angel @ Darley H., $45,000, 1250m
The Snowden stable will also present a leading chance here with Global Queen (Snitzel), who has won both of her lead-up trials. She wasn’t tested to win at her latest outing at Randwick where she was ridden by James McDonald, who takes the mount again.
Global Queen as a yearling
Global Queen was a $500,000 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale graduate and is a sister to the G1 Diamond S. winner and G1 ATC Sires’ Produce S. runner-up Summer Passage. Their dam Subsequent (Encosta De Lago) is a sister to the dual stakes-winner Order Of The Sun with the pedigree also featuring the dual Group 2 winner Shania Dane (Danehill {USA}) and her brother Scintillation, a six-time Listed winner in Singapore.
Ladbrokes Park, Race 1, 12.25pm AEST, Ladbrokes Odds Boost H., $40,000, 1000m
Parlophone (I Am Invincible) is making a fresh start after finishing runner-up at Flemington during her first preparation behind Personal (Fastnet Rock), who subsequently finished third in the G1 Blue Diamond S. She will have the services of Damien Oliver.
I Am Invincible, sire of Parlophone | Standing at Yarraman Park Stud
Trained by Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr, Parlophone is a half-sister to the G3 BJ McLachlan S. winner and sire Sun City and a sister to the Group performer Spin. Their dam Roulettes (Flying Spur) was a Listed winner and is a half-sister to the dual Group 3 winner Royal Discretion (Royal Academy {USA}). Two-time South African stakes-winner Sir Frenchie (Choisir) also features in the pedigree.
