Looking Ahead - July 8

Looking Ahead puts the spotlight on runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are a particularly well-bred or high-priced runner having their first or second start, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse which has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.

Today, we are in the camp of a resuming filly with strong placed form to back her claims and a 3-year-old we’re expecting to go one better on a first-up second at Warwick Farm. At Doomben, we like a juvenile from the family of the great Fastnet Rock.

Centimental (Snitzel) didn’t win during her first preparation, but went close several times in strong company including a runner-up finish behind the talented Away Game (Snitzel) in the G3 Widden S. She is back from a break and a lead-up trial placing suggested she is worthy of support.

The Chris Waller-trained filly is the first foal to race for Serena Miss (NZ) (Iffraaj {GB}) and she was a quality performer who won twice at Group 2 level and finished third in the G1 New Zealand 2000 Guineas. Her dam is a half-sister to the multiple black type winner Presently (Unbridled’s Song {USA}) and the family of the dual South African Group 2 winner New Predator (New Approach {Ire}).

Let Me Think (So You Think {NZ}) is a daughter of Patou (Covetous), who has proved a fine broodmare with nine of her foals successful, including the G1 Golden Slipper S. winner Polar Success (Success Express {USA}), and the dam of the G2 Queensland Guineas winner Sambro (Fastnet Rock).

The family also features the two-time Group 2 winner Bring Me The Maid (Sebring) and the former Singapore Horse of the Year Stepitup (Hussonet {USA}). Trained by Anthony Cummings, Let Me Think finished a close second on debut at Wyong and from an inside gate looks a top chance to go one better.

Acrobatic (Snitzel) finished fourth at his spring debut and was spelled and transferred to Kelly Schweida’s stable. The chestnut drew attention to his resuming prospects with a trial win on this course and rider Mark Du Plessis stays with him.

The 2-year-old also has a pedigree to instil confidence as he is out of the multiple winner and Group performer Emotional Circus (Elusive Quality {USA}). Most significantly, her dam Cirque Du Soleil (Danehill {USA}) is a sister to the two-time Group 1 winner and champion sire Fastnet Rock.
