Star to shine
Ipswich, Listed TAB Gai Waterhouse Classic, $125,000, 1350m
Solar Star (Zoustar) faces the toughest test of her career in this, but the 4-year-old has been in sound form in the lower grades and is also unbeaten in two appearances on the track.
Multaja (Medaglia D’Oro {USA}) made late ground when well-backed in the Listed Bright Shadow S. and the extra distance here will suit her while River Racer (Hidden Dragon) doesn’t win out of turn, but placings in the G2 Dane Ripper S. and Listed Glasshouse H. are hard to ignore when assessing her chances.
Shalwa (NZ) (O’Reilly {NZ}) has proved competitive in this grade and that looks the case again if she gets some luck from an awkward gate. Persuader (Zoustar) is another who can be in the finish with early luck from a bad draw.
Jamaican Rain (Manhattan Rain) didn’t figure in the Bright Shadow and rain will boost her chances while Jami Lady’s (Spirit Of Boom) form speaks for itself and the only question mark on her is the distance.
Boomsara gets nod
Ipswich, Listed Eye Liner S., $85,000, 1200m
Boomsara (Spirit Of Boom) was a sound fourth when resuming in the Listed Ramornie H. and as a past second-up winner deserves respect, as does Pennino (Easy Rocking), who rounded off strongly for third in the Listed Bright Shadow S.
Boomsara
Mr Bellagio (O’Lonhro) has won his last three on the bounce and a recent trial will have kept him up to the mark while Fiery Heights (Hidden Dragon) is capable and drops 4.5kg on his most recent outing.
He has a tricky gate to overcome and so does Deep Image (Testa Rossa), but both are talented sprinters and with good fortune on their side are well capable of giving this a fright.
Stable holds strong hand
Morphettville, Listed Oaklands Plate, $100,000, 1400m
Trainers Tony and Calvin McEvoy are well-represented here and the pick of their team may be Kahaylaan (Pride Of Dubai). He has been a winner and is regarded as the most talented of the stable’s five contenders.
Foxgossip (Foxwedge) didn’t beat a strong line-up at Sale, but he did it in style and wasn’t seriously tested after making all in front. He’s drawn the perfect gate for a repeat performance.
Instant Celebrity (Not A Single Doubt) debuted impressively over this course and the extra trip shouldn’t bother her. Super Striker (Rebel Raider) was well-supported last time and delivered in a style to suggest he’s ready for stronger company.
Chantrea to stay unbeaten
Belmont, Listed Belmont Classic, $100,000, 2200m
Chantrea (Puissance De Lune {Ire}) faced the sternest test of her career in the Listed Belmont Oaks and came through with flying colours. She kept her unbeaten record intact with an impressive display and the extra distance will hold no fears for her.
Chantrea
Cambist (Gingerbread Man) and Heaven’s Gift (Not A Single Doubt) were the minor placegetters on that occasion and both should acquit themselves well again.
Marrochino (Maschino) ran well for second in the Listed Aquanita S. so has obvious claims and while an upset seems unlikely, Petticoat Junction (My Admiration) might be one to boost multiples. She is back to her own age group and could lob into the money over this trip at a price.
