Ipswich, Listed TAB Gai Waterhouse Classic, $125,000, 1350m

Race summary

Solar Star (Zoustar) was facing the sternest test of her career and she majestically rose to the challenge to gain a black type honour.

The 4-year-old had been in good form in the lower grades and grabbed her chance to lead most of the way and boost her value, as she is to be sold as Lot 76 in Millburn Creek’s draft at the upcoming Magic Millions Gold Coast National Broodmare Sale.

Jami Lady (Spirit Of Boom) tried gamely to add another stakes win following her Listed Bright Shadow S. success, but had to settle for second and Multaja (Medaglia D’Oro {USA}) arrived late for third.

Pedigree notes

Solar Star was purchased for $105,000 at the 2019 Magic Millions Broodmare Sale on the Gold Coast and is a daughter of Petty Cury (Not A Single Doubt).

She won six races with her career highlight a victory in the G3 Darley Plate and is a half-sister to Rio Fortune (NZ) (Captain Rio {GB}), who won two Listed events.

Their dam Bahira (NZ) (Volksraad {GB}) was successful in the G3 Thompson H. and she’s a daughter of the G1 Championship S. winner Conifer Bay (NZ) (Virginia Privateer {USA}), who produced the stakes-winner Cong’er (NZ) (Zenno Rob Roy {Jpn}).

Ipswich, Listed Eye Liner S., $85,000, 1200m

Race summary

Bandipur (Commands) made the most of a change of luck when he came from well back in the field for a deserved win.

The Kelly Purdy-trained 5-year-old has been plagued by wide barriers throughout his preparation and again had to jump from an outside gate.

He settled well off the pace, but when a gap one off the rail appeared in the straight he was quickly through to account for Boomsara (Spirit Of Boom) and Monsieur Gustave (Al Maher).

Pedigree notes

Bandipur began his career with Godolphin and was purchased by Mike Crooks under his Mishaani Enterprises banner at last year’s Magic Millions Gold Coast National Racehorse Sale for $260,000.

He is a son of Pattamada (Viscount) and she is a sister to the G1 Queen of the Turf S. winner Neroli.

The G1 TJ Smith S. winner and sire Benfica features in the pedigree, as does the G3 Wellington Cup winner Magic Chai (Magic Albert).

Morphettville, Listed Oaklands Plate, $100,000, 1400m

Race summary

Instant Celebrity (Not A Single Doubt) kept her unbeaten record with a dazzling display following a less than ideal run.

The filly drew wide and settled off the speed before she was shunted wide near the turn, but once balanced she lengthened stride to quickly out the issue beyond doubt.

The Brumby (Spirit Of Boom) did best of the five Tony and Calvin McEvoy-trained runners to take second ahead of Another Award (Shamus Award).

Pedigree notes

Instant Celebrity is a daughter of Celebrity Girl (Starcraft {NZ}), who has a talented mare and won the Listed Cap d’Antibes S. and the Listed Redelva S.

All three of her foals to race have been successful with Celebrity Girl a half-sister to the dam of the G3 Star Kingdom S. winner Generalife (Lonhro), who also ran third in the G1 Stradbroke H.

The G3 Blue Diamond S. Preview and Listed Maribyrnong Trial S. winner Northeast Sheila (Keltrice), dam of the stakes winner and multiple Group placegetter Jacqueline Rouge (Ne Coupez Pas {USA}), also features prominently in the pedigree.

Belmont, Listed Belmont Classic, $100,000, 2200m

Race summary

The perfect start Chantrea (Puissance De Lune {Ire}) has made to her career continued with back-to-back black type wins.

The filly, who had won the Listed Belmont Oaks earlier this month, is now undefeated in six starts from Lindsey Smith’s stable.

Rider William Pike settled her in the trail and was out into the open to hit the front 250 metres from home and clung on tenaciously to beat Heaven’s Gift (Not A Single Doubt) and the pacemaker Marrochino (Maschino) finished third.

Pedigree notes

Chantrea is a daughter of dam Mosse (Danzig Connection {USA}), who was successful four times and nine of her 10 foals to race have been winners.

Mosse is out of In The Mist (Southern Appeal {USA}), a capable galloper who won 10 races with five of them at Listed level and was Group 2-placed.

She has also produced the G2 VRC Sires’ Produce S. winner De Lago Mist (Encosta De Lago), dam of the Group 2 winners Shrouded In Mist (Exceed And Excel) and Into The Mist (Redoute’s Choice).
