Looking Ahead puts the spotlight on runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are a particularly well-bred or high-priced runner having their first or second start, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse which has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.
Today, we take a closer look at a well-related maiden who is resuming at Wyong and has winning trial form and a half-brother to Group 1 winner and sire Pierata, who is on debut. At Racing.com Park, we are keen on another expensive youngster who is returning off a break.
Wyong, Race 2, 12.55pm AEST, Coca-Cola Mdn, $35,000, 1350m
Jason Coyle’s stable has been in good form recently and the roll may continue here with No Complaints (Dundeel {NZ}). He was unplaced in a brief summer campaign and following a spell has returned to win a trial at Warwick Farm in June and had another quieter outing earlier this month.
To be ridden by Rory Hutchings, No Complaints has drawn a perfect gate and in a field that lacks any depth, he appeals as an each way prospect. He also has a pedigree to back his claims and is a half-brother to the G3 Zeditave S. winner Overshare (I Am Invincible). Their Group-placed dam Savannah’s Choice (Redoute’s Choice) is a half-sister to the G1 American Oaks winner Cesario (Jpn) (Special Week {Jpn}), dam of the multiple Group 1 winner and sire Epiphaneia (Jpn).
Wyong, Race 4, 2.10pm AEST, Jim Beam 2YO, $35,000, 1000m
There will be keen interest in the performance of Jet Propulsion (Rubick), who was a $900,000 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale purchase. The colt is a half-brother to the G1 All Aged S. winner and sire Pierata and to the G3 Skyline S. winner Ashokan (More Than Ready {USA}). Their dam November Flight (Flying Spur) was a smart performer and won the G3 Millie Fox S.
Trained by Ciaron Maher and David Eustace, Jet Propulsion has been given time to develop and finished runner-up in his first trial at Randwick last month before he was a comfortable winner at Warwick Farm on July 6. He will be given every chance for an early return on a huge investment by experienced rider Nash Rawiller.
Jet Propulsion as a yearling
Racing.com Park, Race 1, 1.00pm AEST, Racing.com Fillies’ Mdn, $20,700, 1200m
Race day experience should stand Lopez (Zoustar) in good stead here when she returns off a five-month break. She placed in one of her two starts last time around and will be ridden by the in-form Jye McNeil for trainers Tony and Calvin McEvoy.
Lopez as a yearling
Lopez was a $500,000 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale buy and is the first to the races for Fancy Feet (Fath {USA}), who was successful six times including the G3 Strickland S. She is a half-sister to the nine-time winner and stakes performer Swift Sis (Husson Lightning) with their dam a half-sister to the G3 Tattersall’s Cup winner Captain Test (Dehere {USA}). It’s also the family of the Group 1-winning siblings Universal Prince (Scenic {Ire}) and Universal Queen.
