There have been 14 $1 million-plus yearlings sold through Australian sales rings since the start of 2019 whose dams were previously sold through the National Broodmare Sale, a string of results which only serves to back up the reputation of the Gold Coast Sale.
We have taken a detailed look at the top-four priced yearlings from National Sale graduate mares across that period of time.
Grito (Redoute's Choice x Vocalist)
Purchased: 2016 National Broodmare Sale, Lot 1136, On account of Godolphin, $170,000 by Arrowfield Stud
Progeny: 2019 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, Lot 38, On account of Arrowfield Stud, Deep Impact (Jpn) x Grito colt, $1.7 million by Spendthrift, Kennewell Racing, Group 1 Bloodstock
This family was particularly current when her Deep Impact colt went through the 2019 Easter Sale, with Microphone (Exceed And Excel), who is out of Grito's stakes-winning half-sister Sung (Anabaa {USA}) having won the G1 Inglis Sires' the previous week. That, and the Deep Impact factor, saw this colt attract significant attention, eventually selling for $1.7 million. Named Kazuhiko, he has had one start for Lloyd Kennewell, a second in a Group 3 race.
Deep Impact (Jpn) x Grito (colt)
Grito was a savvy purchase for Arrowfield back in 2016. She wasn't in foal at the time and none of her progeny had made it to the track yet, but she was from a top class Darley family, being a half-sister to Group 1 winner Yell (Anabaa {USA}) and closely related to fellow top-flight winners Holler (Commands) and Anthems (Palace Music {USA}) from a stakes-winning Bluebird (USA) mare in Vocalist.

Written Dash (Written Tycoon x Dosh Dash)
Purchased: 2016 National Broodmare Sale, Lot 941, On account of Newgate Farm, $410,000 by Belmont Bloodstock Agency/Tyreel Stud
Progeny: 2019 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale, Lot 337, On account of Tyreel Stud, Exceed And Excel x Written Dash colt, $1.7 million by Aquis Farm
Tyreel Stud had already secured $410,000 from the first foal from Written Dash by Brazen Beau at the Inglis Classic Sale in 2018 and when it returned to the 2019 Easter Sale with a superb looking Exceed And Excel colt, it hit the jackpot. Aquis won the battle for him in the going to $1.7 million and Tyreel stayed in the ownership. Named Osamu, he has had four starts from Chris Waller, including a second in the G2 Skyline S.
Osamu
Written Dash held plenty of appeal herself as a broodmare purchase back in 2016 as a Group 3-winning filly on the track from the family of Group 1 winner Sizzling, and the page got another serious update a couple of years later when another family member, D'Argento joined the Group 1 winning club. Written Dash's I Am Invincible colt fetched $700,000 at this year's Easter Yearling Sale.

Purely Spectacular (NZ) (Pins x Vanilla Sky)
Purchased: 2015 National Broodmare Sale, Lot 852, On account of Widden Stud, $300,000 by Dean Hawthorne Bloodstock
Progeny: 2019 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, Lot 34, Redoute's Choice x Purely Spectacular colt, $1.6 million by Phoenix Thoroughbreds/Aquis Farm
Timing is everything when it comes to broodmare purchases and when Dean Hawthorne secured Purely Spectacular on behalf of GSA Bloodstock in May 2015, he could not expect that her Stratum gelding Stratum Star would became a Group 1 winner within a few months. He won the 2015 G1 Sir Rupert Clarke S. and 2016 G1 Kingston Town Classic adding to a pedigree that already had a considerable depth to it, right back to the blue hen Emancipation (Bletchingly).
Prague when sold as a yearling
That was always going to be a big help to his younger three-quarter brother, but the Redoute's Choice yearling colt, offered by Bhima, had a bit more than pedigree on his side when he went through the Gold Coast sales ring in 2019. Aquis/Phoenix won the bidding and named him Prague. Sent to David Eustace and Ciaron Maher, he won this year's G3 Pago Pago S. and was placed in a G1 Inglis Sires'.

Twilight Royale (Testa Rossa x Royal Season)
Purchased: 2014 National Broodmare Sale, Lot 1474, On account of Attunga Stud, $580,000 by James Bester Bloodstock
Progeny: 2020 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale, Lot 259, I Am Invincible x Twilight Royale, On account of Kia Ora Stud, $1.4 million by Tom Magnier
Kia Ora Stud has achieved some decent results from the progeny of Group 2 winning mare Twilight Royale after buying her of the track in 2014, getting $425,000 and $130,000 for yearlings by Snitzel, but the I Am Invincible colt presented at Easter this year was at a different level. He piqued the interest of one of Australia's best judges, Tom Magnier.
I Am Invincible x Twilight Royale (colt)
"Ananda Krishnan has been one of Australia’s best breeders for a very long time and when he produces a colt of this quality, you can buy them with great confidence. Our team saw him numerous times at Kia Ora and we all believed him to be one of the superior colts of the sale," Magnier said.
Twilight Royal herself was a $45,000 Inglis Melbourne Premier purchase as a yearling, who was able to win a G2 VRC Sires' Produce S. and a R. Listed Inglis Nursery S.
