Looking Ahead - August 26

3 min read

Looking Ahead puts the spotlight on runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are a particularly well-bred or high-priced runner having their first or second start, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse which has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.

Today, we like the chances of a New Zealand Bloodstock graduate at the Kensington track who has produced two smart trials for trainer Chris Waller, also debuting at Kensington is the brother to Darley sire Brazen Beau, while at Ladbrokes Park Hillside we're in the corner of the G3 Kindergarten S. runner-up Jerle (Exceed And Excel) who is set to resume for his spring campaign.

Cadenabbia (Redoute’s Choice) will make his race debut here after two recent smart trials at Rosehill, where he did his best work late in the piece.

Trained by Chris Waller, the 3-year-old colt was the second top lot at the 2019 New Zealand Bloodstock Karaka, purchased by Aquis Farm and Bester Bloodstock for NZ$800,000 from the draft of Cambridge Stud, and is the first foal out of G1 Galaxy H. winner Griante (Good Journey {USA}).

Also set to debut in this race is Stelvio (Lonhro), the James Cummings-trained brother to Eureka Stud’s Group 2-winning freshman sire Encryption. The 3-year-old colt has had one public trial this time in, finishing second to Epauvescent (Epaulette).

A Godolphin homebred, Stelvio is the third foal out of multiple Group 1 winner Guelph (Exceed And Excel), who is also a half-sister to Dazzler (More Than Ready {USA}), the dam of G1 Newmarket H. and G1 Golden Rose S. winner Bivouac (Exeed And Excel).

Legend I Am (I Am Invincible), the brother to Darley sire Brazen Beau, will make his debut off the back of a 1.3l trial win at Randwick on August 11.

The Les Bridge-trained 3-year-old was purchased by Carmel Size for $460,000 at the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale and is the 10th foal out of Group 3 placegetter Sansadee (Snaadee {USA}).

G3 Kindergarten S. runner-up Jerle is set to resume for his spring campaign here after two easy jump-outs at Flemington. He was last seen at the races finishing sixth in the Breeders' S. at Morphettville in April.

Bred by Godolphin and trained by James Cummings, Jerle is out of stakes-winning mare Shannara (Octagonal {NZ}) who is a sister to champion Darley sire Lonhro and multiple Group 1 winner Niello. Further back in the pedigree, is also the family of talented New Zealand gelding Catalyst (NZ) (Darci Brahma {NZ}).
