Wyong, Listed Bishop Collins Accountants Mona Lisa S., $140,000, 1350m
Emeralds (Sebring) is coming off a dominant win at Canterbury a month ago and will be out to add a valuable stakes win to her CV. The John Sargent-trained mare was fourth in last year’s G2 Tea Rose S. and had a solid trial to tick her over last week and she gets in well at the weights with champion jockey James McDonald on her back.
The Kris Lees-trained Wandabaa (Wandjina) is in great form and will make her stakes debut here. She has been up racing since may and has recorded three wins and two seconds from her five starts this campaign. She’s not a speed horse so drawing the inside gate means she will need some luck but her confidence is right up.
Kris Lees’ second runner in the race is the regally bred Miss Fabulass (Frankel {GB}) who is resuming for her first run of the spring. She has won both of her trials leading in and has been knocking on the door of another black-type win for a long time.
Wyong, Listed Carlton Draught Wyong Gold Cup, $160,000, 2100m
Australian Bloodstock and Kris Lees hold two key chances in this race with the first being Attention Run (Ger) (Hurricane Run {Ire}) who finished a narrow second over 1800 metres at Randwick last start. This will be his fourth run of the campaign so his fitness can’t be questioned and he gets in well at the weights with only 54kgs on his back.
Raheen House (Ire) (Sea The Stars {Ire}) is a classy stayer with good European form however he prefers a wet track. Carrying the top weight of 60.5kg will be tough but he was a Group 2 winner in the autumn and placed in this year’s G1 Sydney Cup.
Chris Waller’s Savacool (NZ) (Savabeel) landed her first black-type win two starts ago in the Listed Rowley Mile and ran a credible sixth in the G3 Premier’s Cup last start. She has drawn a nice barrier in six but has never won over further than 1800 metres.
