Looking Ahead - September 5

3 min read

Looking Ahead puts the spotlight on runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are a particularly well-bred or high-priced runner having their first or second start, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse which has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.

Today, we take a closer look at a pair of sparingly-raced maiden contenders at Hawkesbury with Group 1-winning pedigrees to back their claims. At The Valley, we like the chances of a progressive filly claiming her first stakes title.

Hawkesbury, Race 1, 12.34pm AEST, Exact Security Group Plate, $35,000, 1000m

Heart Breaker (I Am Invincible) has a pedigree to envy with the lightly-raced 4-year-old out of the winning Redoute’s Choice mare Belle Couture and she was a $2.6 million Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale graduate. She is a half-sister to the champion mare Black Caviar (Bel Esprit) and the multiple Group 1 winner and producer All Too Hard.

Heart Breaker as a yearling

Trained by Peter and Paul Snowden, Heart Breaker was third on debut before a lengthy break and was unplaced on his return. Another spell followed and a recent trial win strongly suggested that he can make a successful return in the hands of Jeff Penza.

Hawkesbury, Race 2, 1.09pm AEST, Pegasus Roofing Plate, $35,000, 1400m

Seleque (Deep Field) was a $150,000 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale purchase and is a half-sister to the multiple winner All A Spritz (All American), who has won in Hong Kong as Beauty Spark. They are out of the unraced Bubbly Duchess (Duke Of Marmalade {Ire}), a half-sister to the G1 VRC Derby winner Extra Zero (Domesday) and the G3 Adrian Knox S. winner Operetta Lass (Singspiel {Ire}).

Deep Field, sire of Seleque | Standing at Newgate Farm

Prepared by Chris Waller, Seleque trialled twice before she made her first appearance at Newcastle where she gave a bold showing to finish runner-up. The step up in distance seems likely to suit her and from a handy gate can go one better.

The Valley, Race 7, 4.10pm AEST, Listed Inglis Ready2Race Atlantic Jewel S., $140,000, 1200m

Agreeable (Sebring) is a progressive filly who looks more than capable of opening her black type account. She was a smart winner of her only start last season and then found the line strongly when she resumed in the G3 Quezette S. and will strip sharper for that outing.

Agreeable as a yearling

Trained by Anthony and Sam Freedman, Agreeable was a $125,000 Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale purchase and is a daughter of the Listed Gibson Carmichael S. winner Affable (Husson {Arg}). She is out of a half-sister to the two-time Group 1 winner and sire Turffontein and the family of the G2 Autumn S. winner Valiant Spirit (Duporth) and Vergara (Snippetson), successful in the G3 Epona S.
