Mikki Isle gets first stakes winner
Three-time Arrowfield Stud shuttler Mikki Isle (Jpn) has his first stakes winner, with Meikei Yell (Jpn) victorious in the G3 Kokura Nisai S. at Kokura.
The Hidenoru Take-trained 2-year-old overcame a slow start, tracked wide through the race under Yutaka Take and surged late to claim a 1.25l win at her second start.
She had debuted with a win at the same track last month and kept her perfect record intact on Sunday while becoming the first stakes winner for her Shadai Stallion Station-based sire.
Mikki Isle, a son of the great Deep Impact (Jpn), travelled to Australia to stand at Arrowfield Stud for three seasons, before quarantine issues surrounding COVID-19 prevented the shuttling of Japanese stallions to Australia in 2020.
The dual Group 1 winner's first crop in Australia is set to hit the racetracks this season, with his first Japanese crop having produced four winners to date.
Fancy Man gives Pride Of Dubai fourth stakes winner in Ascendant
A big day of racing started with last season’s Australian Champion First Season Sire Pride Of Dubai getting his second Northern Hemisphere stakes winner when Fancy Man (Ire) lived up to his name in the Listed Betfair Exchange Ascendant S. over 1600 metres at Haydock.
The fourth worldwide stakes winner for his young sire, Fancy Man is a grandson of a Galileo (Ire) daughter of Group 3 winner Danehill Music (Ire) (Danehill Dancer {Ire}) with the 2-year-old colt bred 3 x 4 to both Danehill and Sadler’s Wells.
The colt comes from the extended family of champion Dank (GB) (Dansili {GB}) and her Group 1-winning half-brother Eagle Mountain (GB) (Rock Of Gibraltar {Ire}) in addition to G1 Sydney Cup winner Mourayan (Ire) (Alhaarth {Ire}) and Melbourne Cup third Mourilyan (Ire) (Desert Prince {Ire}).
Dream Of Dreams races to Group 1 success in Sprint Cup
A changed horse since a gelding operation last Fall, Dream Of Dreams (GB) (Dream Ahead {USA}) won his third race of the year and first career Group 1 in the G1 Betfair Sprint Cup S. on Saturday over 1200 metres at Haydock.
Trained by Sir Michael Stoute, Dream Of Dreams is only a head away from being undefeated in 2020 with a head loss to Hello Youmzain (Fr) (Kodiac {GB}) seeing him finish second in the G1 Diamond Jubilee S. in June.
By former shuttle stallion Dream Ahead (USA), Dream Of Dreams is one of three stakes horses for Dansili’s (GB) unraced Vasilia (GB), a half-sister to the Group 1-winning granddam of champions Churchill (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) and Clemmie (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}).
Global Campaign another Grade 1 winner for Globe Trot after Woodward
Bolt d’Oro’s (USA) half-brother Global Campaign (USA) (Curlin {USA}) became the second Grade 1 winner from three runners out of Globe Trot (USA) (A.P. Indy {USA}) on Saturday at Saratoga with a convincing win in the G1 Woodward S.
Coming into the race off a Grade 3 victory, Global Campaign immediately raced to the lead in the 2000 metre race. Behind him race favourite Tacitus (USA) (Tapit {USA}) took over second by 0.75l once the field organised itself.
Global Campaign crossed the wire 1.75l in first with Tacitus 1.25l ahead of third-placed Prioritize (USA) (Tizway {USA}).
“I gained a lot of confidence in his last race when he took a couple challenges and drew off a bit (winning the G3 Monmouth Cup),” said trainer Stanley Hough. “I thought that was a good sign. His mile-and-an-eighth races were pretty good between the Peter Pan and the last race.
"He beat a good horse. We're all excited. It's a great win. That's what the game is all about. You try to develop horses that will go on and be a sire and I believe he'll make a good one."
Four-year-old Global Campaign is one of three stakes winners from three runners out of Globe Trot.
Globe Trot is out of multiple graded stakes winner and stakes producer Trip (USA) (Lord At War {Arg}) and from the family of Grade 1 winner Zensational (USA) (Unbridled’s Song {USA}) and G2 Stan Fox winner Colada (Brazen Beau).
Enable canters in Arc prep
It was always expected to be an easy final Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe prep for Enable (GB) (Nathaniel {Ire}) in Saturday’s G3 Unibet September S. and that more than came to fruition when she romped home by 7l for her second victory in the race.
Breaking a step slow in the 2400 metre race, she was quickly into stride under Frankie Dettori and went straight to the lead. It was an easy pace all the way around as Kirstenbosch (GB) (Mount Nelson {GB}) followed 1l behind with Prince of Arran (GB) (Shirocco {GB}) in third.
It was never anything but an easy workout for Enable, with the mare never feeling any real pressure as Dettori continued to peek over his shoulder throughout.
“She did it very nicely, very smoothly,” trainer John Gosden told Thoroughbred Daily News. “The track is riding deeper than usual and Frankie felt she didn’t find it as easy to be as fluent on as she normally is. She normally springs off that, but it’s just riding a bit sticky.
"Apart from that, he was absolutely delighted with her. She has had a nice blow and a good day out. She was idling a bit in front and the race would have just brought her on nicely. She will have a nice easy 10 days and then we will build-up to the Arc.”
The winner of 15 of her 18 starts and never off the board in those losses, Enable will be searching for her third Arc win in four trips to the race after finishing second last year.
Well-bred Mystic Guide wins Jim Dandy
Third in his stakes debut last out, Mystic Guide (USA) (Ghostzapper {USA}) went two better in Saturday’s G2 Jim Daddy at Saratoga.
A homebred for Godolphin, Mystic Guide broke widest of all and dropped to the back of the field as Celtic Strike (USA) (Congrats {USA}) and First Line (USA) (First Samurai {USA}) vied for the lead. Mystic Guide moved a bit closer as they entered the final 800 metres of the 1800 metre race and entered the turn in midpack.
Jesus’s Team (USA) (Tapiture {USA}) was the leader turning into the stretch but Mystic Guide wasn’t going to let that last for long as he raced right past him. Mystic Guide won by 0.75l over a late-charging Liveyoubeastlife (USA) (Ghostzapper {USA}) with Jesus’ Team a further 0.75l back in third.
By Ghostzapper (USA), Mystic Guide is one of three winners out of five-time Grade 1 winner Music Note (USA) (A.P. Indy {USA}).
That mare is a half-sister to dual Grade 1 winner Musical Chimes (USA) (In Excess {Ire}) with the pair granddaughters of multiple U.S. champion It’s In The Air (USA) (Mr. Prospector {USA}).
A bluehen broodmare, It’s In The Air’s family includes G1 Coolmore Classic winner Alverta (Flying Spur), her Group 3 winning half-sibling Aerobatics (Exceed And Excel) and Listed Gold Rush H. winner Intuition (Street Cry {Ire}).
Civil Union gets first graded stakes win in Glen Falls
Civil Union (USA) (War Front {USA}) became the 52nd stakes winner for her sire on Saturday with a win in the G2 Glen Falls S. over 2200 metres.
The winner of four of six races, Civil Union is one of four stakes horses by War Front (USA) out of Photograph (USA) (Unbridled’s Song {USA}). That mare herself is a half-sister to two Grade 1 winners by War Front among her five stakes performing siblings.
Civil Union comes from a loaded family with her granddam a half-sister to Grade 2 winner and top sire Dynaformer (USA), the dam of Grade 1 winner Offlee Wild (USA) (Wild Again {USA}), and the dam of G1 Underwood S. winner Homesman (USA) (War Front {USA}) .
Mighty Gurkha latest stakes winner for Sepoy
Already a stakes-placed runner, 2-year-old Mighty Gurkha (Ire) became Sepoy’s latest stakes winner with a victory in the G3 Unibet 3 Uniboosts A Day Sirenia S. over 1200 metres.
Ridden by Adam McNamara for trainer Archie Watson, Mighty Gurkha went straight to the lead and had 1l on the field for much of the race. Cloudbridge (USA) (Hard Spun {USA}) made a move to challenge just outside the final 400 metres but Mighty Gurkha shrugged him off in midstretch.
It was the second win in five starts for the 2-year-old, who won by 7.5l on debut and was second in the Listed Rose Bowl Stakes two starts later.
He’s the first runner out of a half-sister to Hong Kong stakes winner and Group 1-placed Rewarding Hero (GB) (Exceed And Excel), who is out of Group 3-placed Caldy Dancer (Ire) (Soviet Star {USA}) .
