Looking Ahead - September 15

3 min read

Looking Ahead puts the spotlight on runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are a particularly well-bred or high-priced runner having their first or second start, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse which has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.

Today, we’re in the camp of two lightly-tried gallopers who appeal as strong chances to break through at Taree while at Wodonga we are expecting a well-related filly to open her campaign in the best possible style.

Taree, Race 3, 2.35pm AEST, Mid Coast Automotive Group Plate, $22,000, 1000m

Tupou (Real Impact {Jpn}) wasn’t far away when sixth at Muswellbrook in his only appearance to date. That was back in May and he has since returned from a break for two trials and won the latest of them over 1000 metres to indicate his readiness to get back to action.

Prepared by Paul Perry, Tupou is a son of Kokomo (Choisir) who was successful on five occasions and is a sister to the G3 Concorde S. winner Wouldn’t It Be Nice. Their dam Mid Cat Dancer (USA) (Tactical Cat {USA}) was a stakes winner in North America and also the family of the G3 Aqueduct Best Turn S. winner Farmonthefreeway (USA) (Talc {USA}).

Taree, Race 5, 3.45pm AEST, Stacks Law Firm H., $22,000, 1300m

The Kim Waugh-trained Toguchi (Magic Albert) has gone close to breaking through a couple of times from a handful of starts and from the inside gate has every chance of doing so here. The mare has also had the benefit of two trials to prepare her for her return.

Toguchi as a yearling

Waugh picked up Toguchi for $25,000 at the Inglis Scone Yearling Sale and is the first foal to race for Let’s Reflect (Manner Hill). She is a half-sister to the multiple winner and Group performer Vecchia Roma (Testa Rossa) and the family of the G2 Emancipation S. winner Amberino (Perugino {USA}). Her half-sister Winter Bride (Not A Single Doubt) won three times at Group 3 level and finished runner-up in the G1 Railway S.

Wodonga, Race 6, 3.30pm AEST, CB Debt Consultancy H., $22,000, 1200m

Rose Of Sebring (Sebring) makes a fresh start here and this presents an ideal opportunity for the 3-year-old to kick off on a winning note. She looked good during a brief campaign last season, including a runaway maiden success over this trip at Ballarat.

The Lindsay Park-trained filly was a $95,000 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale purchase and is a half-sister to the winner Mighty Beau (Brazen Beau). They are out of Pokazi (Encosta De Lago), a half-sister to Listed Manihi Classic winner Planet Voyage (Exceed And Excel). Their dam is the G3 Breeders’ Classic winner Pasikatera (Thunder Gulch {USA}), who is a three-quarter sister to the G1 Australia S. winner Tempest Morn (Thunder Gulch {USA}).
