Looking Ahead - September 23

Looking Ahead puts the spotlight on runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are a particularly well-bred or high-priced runner having their first or second start, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse which has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.

Today, we like the chances of a half-brother to the G1 Australian Derby winner who resumes off the back of a trial win, the sister to Eureka Stud's second season sire, Encryption, steps out at Canterbury, while at Flemington a Anthony and Sam Freedman-trained filly has caught our eye.

Canterbury, Race 2, 2pm AEST, 2020 Vinery Stallions H., $50,000, 1250m

Yulong Code (Zoustar) was purchased by Yulong Investments and RIFA Mustang for $1,075,000 at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale from the draft of KBL Thoroughbreds and is out of Acouplamas (Al Maher), making him a half-brother to G1 Australian Derby winner Quick Thinker (So You Think {NZ}) as well as the Group-placed Seasons (Sebring) and The August (I Am Invincible).

The Chris Waller-trained 3-year-old colt had two starts as a juvenile finishing sixth and fourth at metropolitan grade and resumes off the back of a 1.3l trial win at Rosehill.

Godolphin homebred Emanate (Lonhro) is one of two foals to race out of multiple Group 1 winner Guelph (Exceed And Excel), making her a sister to G2 Danehill S. winner Encryption, who stands his second season at Eureka Stud this year.

The 4-year-old mare has had six starts to date for two wins and three placings and was last seen scoring over 1200 metres at Canterbury by 1.3l on September 9.

The Anthony and Sam Freedman-trained La Mexicana (I Am Invincible) has only had one career start when she was an impressive 2.5l winner over 1100 metres at Ballarat in May.

The 3-year-old filly was purchased for $320,000 by Belmont Bloodstock Agency at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale from the draft of Lime County Thoroughbreds and is one of two winners from two foals to race out of the Listed-placed Caitlin Miss (Domesday).
