Looking Ahead puts the spotlight on runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are a particularly well-bred or high-priced runner having their first or second start, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse which has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.

Godolphin homebred Endanger (Medaglia D’Oro {USA}) is the only foal to race out of dual Group winner Hazard (Flying Spur), who herself is out of Dawn Attack (Ire) (Fantastic Light {USA}), making her a half-sister to G3 Manfred S. winner Java (Medaglia D’Oro {USA}), G3 Auraria S. scorer Crucial (Nadeem) and G3 Ottawa S. winner Antelucan (Domesday).

Endanger’s third dam is Sabaah (USA) (Nureyev {USA}), who produced successful sire Desert King (Ire) and dual stakes winner Cairdeas (Ire) (Darshaan {GB}).

Purchased for $250,000 at the Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale by Anthony Freedman and Blue Sky Bloodstock, Shame Shame Shame (Hinchinbrook) is one of seven foals to race out of Artful Whisper (USA) (Machiavellian {USA}), making him a brother to seven-time stakes winner Whispering Brook, who made $1.1 million at the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale to the bid of Katsumi Yoshida.

The gelding’s second dam Speak To Me Softly (USA) (Ogygian {USA}) also produced Charlotte Bronte (GB) (Danehill Dancer {Ire}), the dam of the Listed-placed Facade (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) who was purchased by de Burgh Equine and James Harron for 280,000 gns (AU$504,679) at the 2016 Tattersalls December Mares Sales.

Benalla, Race 4, 2:30pm AEST, Steph Ryan Mdn Plate , $23,000, 1606m

Van Cleef (Savabeel) was purchased by Dean Hawthorne Bloodstock for $850,000 at the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale from the draft of Coolmore Stud and is the only foal to race out of Love Triangle (NZ) (Encosta De Lago).

The 3-year-old filly stems from the famous family of Eight Carat (GB) (Pieces Of Eight {GB}), with the blue hen mare featuring on the page as the fifth dam, while her fourth dam is Group 1 winner Diamond Lover (Sticks And Stones).
