Gate only query
Rosehill, G2 Kia Golden Pendant, $400,000, 1400m
Haut Brion Her (Zoustar) has a horror draw to contend with, but any luck in the early running will see her hard to beat. She was outstanding when successfully resuming in the G2 Sheraco S.
Runner-up in that event was Jen Rules (Redoute’s Choice) and Seasons (Sebring) was third and similar performances should put them right in the frame again.
Haut Brion Her (pink cap)
Emeralds (Sebring) came from a long way back off a wide gate for fifth in the Listed Mona Lisa S. and she’s drawn much closer to the fence and makes each way appeal.
Evalina (I Am Invincible) was fourth in the Sheraco and should now be at peak fitness while Sweet Deal (Casino Prince) was unplaced in that race, but is up in trip and a distance she has won six times over.
Subpoenaed (NZ) (Rip Van Winkle {Ire}) will appreciate the step up in trip after coming from last for sixth in the G2 Sheraco S. over 1200 metres.
Lightweight hope
Rosehill, G2 Iron Jack Shannon S., $200,000, 1500m
Just Thinkin’ (So You Think {NZ}) looms as a decent lightweight chance in his current form following success at Randwick and then got going late to finish runner-up in the G3 Cameron H. at Newcastle.
Although unplaced, Tyzone (Written Tycoon) wasn’t far away in the G2 Theo Marks S. and as a G1 Stradbroke H., winner he’s entitled to respect. A decent surface will bring I Am Superman (Ire) (Footstepsinthesand {GB}) into contention following a strong last-start win at Caulfield.
Riodini (NZ) (Proisir) won the G3 Bonecrusher S. in New Zealand before relocating to the stable of Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott and he can be expected to show improvement on his first Australian outing.
Quackerjack (Not A Single Doubt) weakened to sixth in the G3 Cameron H., but matched fields of this quality last season when he won the G2 Villiers S. so may be worth another chance.
Lion to roar
Rosehill, G3 Precise Air Gloaming S., $200,000, 1800m
Lion’s Roar (NZ) (Contributer {Ire}) has looked good in a brief career and led all the way to win easily over a mile at Kembla Grange. He went to the line strongly enough to suggest an extra 200 metres will bother him.
Chris Waller has a strong hand with recent winners Cadenabbia (Redoute’s Choice) and Bucharest (Deep Impact {Jpn}) and Achiever (Pride Of Dubai) was a sound last-start second.
Love Tap (Tapit {USA}) will be making his city debut and has looked smart with three wins from as many starts, suggesting he’s up for the challenge.
Easy Campese (Sidestep) is the most experienced runner in the field and his effort for fourth behind the unbeaten Mo’unga (NZ) (Savabeel) in the Listed Dulcify S. was sound and he’s worthy of serious consideration.
Attorney presents solid case
Rosehill, G3 JRA Colin Stephen Quality, $160,000, 2400m
Attorney (Fr) (Makfi {GB}) has turned in two solid performances this preparation and while he’s up in grade, he does drop 3.5kg and doesn’t meet an overly strong line-up.
Exemplar (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) has been racing well and the distance will be right up his alley coming off a close fourth over 2500 metres at Flemington.
Carzoff (Fr) (Zoffany {Ire}) is rarely far from the action and should be in the firing line while Raheen House (Ire) (Sea The Stars {Ire}) has a couple of runs under his belt and due to show some improvement.
Celebrity to shine
Caulfield, G2 Schweppes Thousand Guineas Prelude, $250,000, 1400m
Instant Celebrity (Not A Single Doubt) is unbeaten in three appearances and while she has yet to come up against a field of this quality, her performances suggest she’s not going to be out of place.
Night Raid (Vancouver) was impressive claiming top honours in the Listed Atlantic Jewel S. and looks certain to be competitive on that effort while Letzbeglam (Snitzel) was fourth when resuming in the Listed Cap D’Antibes and was a second-up winner last season.
Personal (Fastnet Rock) was placed in the G1 Blue Diamond S. on the course last term and is another who will be sharper for her run for fifth in the G2 Danehill S. She made ground strongly and should be ultra-competitive.
Mozzie Monster (Sebring) won her first two starts before coming on well for third in the Listed Jim Moloney S., last Saturday. If she handles the quick back-up, she can make her presence felt.
Colt is flying
Caulfield, G3 Neds Caulfield Guineas Prelude, $250,000, 1400m
Flying Award (Shamus Award) is a smart colt who was a stakes winner last season and resumed with a powerful late run for second in the G3 McNeil S. A wide draw might not be enough to prevent him from going one better.
Crosshaven (Smart Missile) impressed when he came from the outside barrier to land the Listed Exford Plate and after two runs this preparation will be at the peak of his powers.
Savannah Cloud (NZ) (Savabeel) was a runaway maiden winner last time out and looks more than capable of making his mark in black-type company.
Bartley (Written Tycoon) was run down by Crosshaven in the Exford and should give another good sight.
Demon to strike back
New Plymouth, G3 NZB Ready to Run Sale Trainers’ Series, NZf$70,000, 1400m
Demonetization (All Too Hard) put together two strong wins before he got home strongly to finish fourth in the G2 Foxbridge Plate. He drops in class here and that should be enough to see him add to his winning tally.
London Express (NZ) (Shamexpress) is racing well and has a home track advantage while Go Nicholas (NZ) (Danroad) goes well off a break and he won a recent trial.
Conor O’Ceirin (NZ) (Dial A Prayer {NZ}) is progressive and the way he dealt to an open handicap field last time out can be at least a place hope and Rosewood (NZ) (Redwood {GB}) is a chance on her best form, particularly if she strikes a loose track.
Lady Kartel (NZ) (Tavistock {NZ}) might be worth considering at a price as she has placed in similar company in the past and is a two-time winner at the trip.
