A well-performed son of Tapit (USA), Frosted’s first runner The Globe finished third in the opening 2-year-old race of the Victorian season at Flemington and a son and daughter will fly his flag in Saturday’s Listed Darley Maribyrnong Trial S.
All three, The Globe, Ingratiating and Cloudy, are prepared by James Cummings, providing a remarkable start to the 2-year-old season for the trainer and stallion given the Godolphin Head Trainer only has four youngsters by Frosted in his stable.
“It’s a bit of a surprise even though Frosted was a winning 2-year-old and Group 2-placed. Obviously, he was an outstanding 3 and 4-year-old and a champion miler so we anticipated his progeny would make lovely 3-year-olds,” Darley’s Victorian General Manager Andy Makiv said.
“That said, we sent some fast mares to him. We have five of his 2-year-olds in the Godolphin system and it’s really exciting to think that three of them are capable of getting to the races at this very early stage.

“We’ve got four with James and one (Frost Flowers) with Anthony and Sam Freedman, which is a half-sister to Hanseatic and Anthony has been very positive about her.
“She’s just having a little break at the farm and about to come back in. She is expected to make a 2-year-old and Anthony has been excited about her all the way through.
“It’s early days, but it’s looking good. For an operation of our size and the amount of stallions we have on the roster, to have three 2-year-old runners at Flemington by a new stallion by the second week in October is fantastic.
“I think The Globe is probably going to run on Saturday week in the Listed Debutant S. so that would be three in three stakes races.”
Injections of speed
Makiv said a number of mares blessed with pace had been sent to Frosted and the results had been surprising, but welcome.
“We’ve certainly sent a bit of speed to Frosted, but at the same time probably thinking autumn 2-year-olds into being better as 3-year-olds and that’s certainly a prospect.
“He is a very exciting horse for us and started well in America, which is wonderful. He’s had six winners there and they are winning at proper racetracks over there and I’m told he’s got one coming up in a Group 1.”
Frosted was the triple Group 1 winner of the Wood Memorial S., Metropolitan H. and Whitney S. and has received a warm welcome since his shuttle run began.
“We are very excited about him and we were really keen to get him into Victoria. We’ve supported him strongly all the way through and so have our best clients,” Makiv said.

“Saturday is a big day and if he could get an early stakes winner it would be great, but we do anticipate him getting lovely horses later on and maybe even horses that stay a bit.
“Frosted is certainly getting a lot of attention and all the reports have always been that they have wonderful temperaments, very accepting of everything and easy to train.
“He gets a good type and sales horses so fingers crossed he’s the right horse for us.”
Frosted (USA) | Standing at Darley
Frosted has covered in the vicinity of 100 mares in each of his years at stud.
“They are good-sized books and he’s obviously a highly important horse to the American business and comes with a big profile out of America and he’s very busy there,” Makiv said.
“He essentially comes to Australia on a working holiday and books of a 100 are perfect for him and we’re on target to head to that figure again. We’re very pleased with the opportunities that he has been presented with.”
