Looking Ahead puts the spotlight on runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are a particularly well-bred or high-priced runner having their first or second start, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse which has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.
Today, we like the chances at Warwick Farm of a filly from the family of champion performer Tie The Knot (Nassipour {USA}) and an expensive purchase with a win already on the board. At Bendigo, we are in the corner of an improving maiden set for his first breakthrough.
Warwick Farm, Race 3, 2.35pm AEDT, Impending @ Darley H., $50,000, 1100m
The well-related Deniki (Not A Single Doubt) showed she had inherited a measure of the family ability with a front-running victory over this course and distance at just her third start. The filly has drawn the ace barrier and, with Tommy Berry again in the saddle, two on the bounce beckons.
Not A Single Doubt, sire of Deniki
Prepared by Mark Newnham, Deniki is a half-sister to the G2 Run To The Rose S. and G1 Golden Rose S. placegetter Menari (Snitzel). Their dam Isurava (General Nediym) won the Listed Australia Post S. and is a sister to the G2 Magic Night S. winner Ichihara and the Listed Silk Stocking H. winner Au Chocolat. Multiple Group 1 winner Tie The Knot is also a member of this family.
Warwick Farm, Race 5, 3.45pm AEDT, Sky Racing Active H., $50,000, 1600m
Jack The Lad (I Am Invincible) was a $575,000 purchase at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale where he was offered by Milburn Creek. He is a son of the unraced Redoute’s Choice mare Luluoru, whose half-sister Topic (USA) (Discreet Cat {USA}) was a stakes winner and ran third in the G1 American Oaks. The pedigree page also features the three-time Group 1 winner and sire Afleet Alex (USA).
Jack The Lad as a yearling
Trained by Chris Waller, Jack The Lad came on well for third on debut and following a break opened his account on this track over 1400 metres. He has since had a quiet trial and the step up to a mile should give him every chance to continue his winning form.
Bendigo, Race 3, 2.30pm AEDT, TAC Be Races Ready Plate, $35,000, 1400m
Zoutellus (Zoustar) has made an encouraging start to his career with the Ken and Kasey Keys-trained 3-year-old a sound third first time out and then finished third at Cranbourne, behind the highly-regarded Savannah Cloud (NZ) (Savabeel), where he boxed on soundly. The step up to a mile looks ideal and Ben Allen again has the reins.
Zoutellus as a yearling
Purchased for $150,000 out of Woodside Park Stud’s consignment, Zoutellus is a half-brother to the dual stakes winner Bring Something (Sebring) with their dam the unraced Metellus (Naturalism {NZ}). She is a half-sister to the G3 Fernhill H. winner Jolly (NZ) (Sir Tristram {Ire}) and the Listed Sir Edward Williams H. winner Eastern Star (NZ) (Star Way {GB}).
