Listed TAB Cranbourne Cup, 2025 metres, $400,000
Race Summary
Future Score (Ire) (Cape Cross {Ire}) has finished powerfully to claim the Listed Cranbourne Cup for trainer Matt Cumani and jockey Fred Kersley.
The imported 6-year-old, who is owned by OTI Racing, secured his first stakes success at start 17, after coming from off the pace to defeat Odeon (NZ) (Zacinto {GB}), while 2019 winner Dr Drill (GB) (Dansili {GB}), finished third.
Inverloch (Ire) (Fastnet Rock) led the field up, and set a steady tempo along with Trap For Fools (Poet's Voice {GB}), with Dr Drill able to get the perfect run for jockey Craig Williams in behind the leaders.
Williams pushed through along the inside and looked destined for back-to-back successes at one stage on Dr Drill, but out wider first Odeon closed well and then right over the top from back in the field came Future Score and Kersley, who had a clear margin of victory of 1.75l on the line, with another 0.75l back to third.
It was a career-best performance from the Irish-bred stayer at just his second run for the campaign and takes his career earnings over $500,000, with his sixth win.
Cumani said post-race, Future Score would likely head towards the G3 Lexus S. with the hope of still securing a berth for the G1 Melbourne Cup.
Pedigree notes
Future Score becomes the 121st stakes winner for his sire Cape Cross (Ire) and the first for his dam Theola (Ire) (Kalinisi {Ire}), who has produced three winners.
Theloa is a half-sister to the stakes-placed pair Orgligo Bay (Ire) (Lawman {GB}) and My Pension (Fr) (Kendor {Fr}), who produced the stakeswinner Maisha (Jpn) (Footstepsinthesand {USA}).
The third dam, Fly Me (Fr) (Luthier {Fr}) was a multiple Group winner and was Group 1-placed.
Future Score was bred by Swordlesdown Little and was initially purchased for €140,000 (AU$228,670) by Godolphin before being sold and then was later purchased by OTI Racing to come and race in Australia.
