Looking Ahead - November 7

3 min read

Looking Ahead puts the spotlight on runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are a particularly well-bred or high-priced runner having their first or second start, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse which has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.

Today, at Flemington we believe a 3-year-old will maintain his perfect record while at Geelong we’re in then camp of a well-related colt on debut, and at Rosehill we’re expecting an expensive filly to recoup a major slice of her purchase price.

Flemington, Race 2, 1pm AEDT, Listed The Amanda Elliott, $175,000, 1400m

The Tony and Calvin McEvoy-trained Deep Speed (Deep Field) puts his unbeaten record on the line here and judging by his two previous performances he’s a great chance to retain it. The 3-year-old was a debut winner at Morphettville before coasting to victory at Moonee Valley and from an inside gate he looks the one to beat in this line-up.

Deep Speed as a yearling

Glastonbury Farms offered Deep Speed at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale where he was snapped up by McEvoy Mitchell Racing for $220,000. He is a half-brother to this season’s G3 Breeders’ Plate placegetter Astrologer (Star Turn) and their dam is the unraced Fast ‘N’ Witty (Fastnet Rock). This is the family of the G1 Golden Slipper S. winner Crystal Lily (Stratum).

Bet365 Geelong, Race 3, 1.51pm AEDT, Quinlan Cranes 3YO Plate, $23,000, 1212m

Limited Vision (Lonhro) is prepared by Anthony and Sam Freedman and has the pedigree to suggest that the colt is going to give an excellent account of himself at the first time of asking. He will jump from an inside gate for apprentice rider Lachlan Neindorf.

Limited Vision as a yearling

Offered at the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale by Three Bridges Thoroughbreds, Limited Vision was purchased by Blue Sky Bloodstock and Anthony Freedman for $300,000. He is the first representative of Into The Mist (Redoute’s Choice), who is a half-sister to Shrouded In Mist (Exceed And Excel) with both winning editions of the G2 Queen of the South S. They are out of De Lago Mist (Encosta De Lago), successful in the G2 VRC Sires’ Produce S. and the G3 SAJC Breeders’ S.

Rosehill, Race 6, 3.55pm AEDT, Golden Gift, $1,000,000, 1100m

Cerda (Snitzel) was a smart trial winner before she made her debut at Randwick where she finished a close second. It’s reasonable to expect the filly to strip a lot sharper for that experience and from a handy gate is poised to produce another bold showing.

Cerda as a yearling

She is trained by Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott who went to $450,000 to buy her out of Widden Stud’s draft at the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale. Her dam Comprende (I Am Invincible) was a 2-year-old winner and a Group 3 placegetter and is a half-sister to the G3 SAJC Breeders’ S. Excites Zelady (Excites) winner and the G3 BK McLachlan S. winner Zelady’s Night Out (Myboycharlie {Ire}). The pedigree also features the South African Group 2 winners Long Dollar (SAF) (Rakeen {USA}) and Polar Bound (SAF) (Western Winter {USA}).
